The Florence home of the Four Seasons hotel group is undoubtedly one of the city’s luxury hotels of reference.
The main building is a converted Renaissance palace which was the private residence of Florentine nobles for five hundred years, and only became the Four Seasons Florence in 2008. Across the huge gardens, a 16th century convent building houses further rooms.
Alongside the sumptuous interiors, one of the highlights of the Four Seasons is the fact that it sits in 11 acres of private parkland, the Giardino della Gherardesca, Florence’s largest private botanical garden. Within these historic grounds – inaccessible to the public for over five centuries – sits the hotel’s enormous spa, and a fitness centre in the old stables.
The hotel is a fifteen-minute walk from the centre of the city, but its surroundings more than compensate.
The Four Seasons Florence has 116 guest rooms, of which 44 are suites, in which rich fabrics and opulent antiques create a feeling of total luxury. The hotel is decorated throughout with period furniture, oil paintings and frescoes.
Service, as you would expect from the Four Seasons group, is exemplary, whether it’s concierge-style tips or late-night private dining that you’re after.
Il Palagio is the main restaurant at the Four Seasons Florence, and serves Tuscan and Italian cuisine under a vaulted ceiling. The glass-roofed Atrium Bar and the Spa Lounge also serve drinks and light meals.
The Four Seasons spa has ten treatment rooms, an outdoor pool and a steam room, and all treatments use products from Florence’s oldest pharmacy.
