Conrad Maldives Rangali Island Offers

Tried & Tested

A seaplane ride away and you’ve escaped the stress of daily life. The Conrad Maldives, located on Rangali Island boasts some wow factors that Lightfoot Travel’s Melissa was lucky enough to experience whilst on a ‘work’ holiday to the island nation. What did she uncover? There’s only one way to find out…

How do you reach Conrad Maldives Rangali Island?

The adventure starts off at the Conrad’s waiting lounge in Male, which is one of the nicest I’ve been in with plush leather sofa-beds with pillows, sea view, a buffet line and a massage treatment room! After a 30 minute sea plane flight – an incredibly scenic experience – guests land right next to the hotel’s jetty, which is noteworthy as most sea plane flights require a short speedboat ride after that.

The property has a plethora of dining venues to choose from. Can you break it down for us and tell us a bit more about their under-water restaurant as well.

Indeed, you will not want for dining options whilst at the Conrad Maldives!

Wine enthusiasts should definitely make time to experience The Wine Cellar, which is home to over 20,000 bottles ranging from USD 20 to 52,000. They do an excellent wine tasting nights with 5 courses and 8 pairings. The table in the cellar is custom made with tablets installed at every seat and you’ll learn about where and how each wine is produced pre-tasting with the sommelier. Very interesting!

Mandhoo Restaurant is a great option for guests looking for gourmet cuisine concocted with the finest organic ingredients. The food is interesting and is specially prepared to energize, nourish, relax and fortify the body. The highlight for me was the great sunset views whilst sipping on delicious wine.

Another note-worthy is Ufaa by celebrated chef, Jereme Leung. The concept is to showcase cuisine from provinces across China and give them an innovative twist. In the evenings, the ambiance is lively with the adjoining karaoke and mah-jong room.

And of course, the famed Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, truly a unique experience. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the fish observing me eat and going about their day. There are only 14 seats which are booked out very quickly, so I suggest you grab them quickly!

Which room did you stay in and what was it like?

Deluxe Beach Villa. It was huge, with a large outdoor deck, lots of sandy space and a full lap pool. Also had a large outdoor bath and bathtub pavilion.

Which room would you recommend for families and honeymooners?

The Conrad Maldives has two islands, one of which is better suited for couples looking for a quieter scene. The villas on this second island is therefore best suited for honeymooners, away from the families. This is where the Quietzone infinitiy pool is. There is a more grown up, beach club vibe and kids are not allowed in certain parts.

That being said, that does not mean that the Conrad Maldives doesn’t cater to families, on the contrary! The main island, which is a 500m bridge away – or a traditional dhoni ride away – is completely open to kids and they have lots to keep them entertained. I would opt for the oversized Deluxe Beach Villas and Deluxe Water Villas if kids are above 12.

What’s the diving like in this part of the Maldives?

Some of the best diving in the Maldives is found in the South Ari Atoll. Conrad has year round whale shark snorkelling excursions) and their house reef is very colourful, healthy and full of marine life. I accidentally interrupted 2 eagle rays mating while snorkelling and saw a 3ft black tip shark! They also have manta rays which come to their bridge almost every night to feed on the ample plankton the resort attracts with its lights under the jetty. Sadly, I was there over bad weather, we had storms all night and no mantas.

How do guests keep themselves busy on the property?

Great snorkelling, very modern water sports centre including glass bottom boat snorkelling, water Jet Pack (one of the rare hotels in the Maldives to offer this), multiple dining venues, unique excursions like whale shark watching, great spa, tennis court, etc. Needless to say, there is a lot to do whilst staying at Conrad Maldives.
