Amankora Paro

Amankora Paro is hidden among pine trees in Balakha village, half an hour from Paro’s international airport, with mountain streams running through the property. It boasts views of the surrounding forest of blue pines, the peaks of Mount Jhomolhari and the 17th Century Drukyel Dzong, a fortress and Buddhist monastery.

The 24 suites of the hotel are open-plan and wooden-clad – the same design is used throughout all Amans in Bhutan. As well as a king-sized bed, there are armchairs and a windowseat which makes the perfect reading spot. The bathrooms have double basins, a big central bath, a strong rain shower, a separate WC.

Elsewhere in the property, the uncluttered living spaces come with blazing fires windowside banquettes. There’s a library of books, an outdoor patio, and a firepit around which to enjoy drinks.

The luxurious spa set on two levels includes a steam room, sauna and a glass walled yoga studio.
