Between a beach and freshwater lagoon, Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara offers refreshing luxury, and a gateway to Oman’s cultural treasures.
Inspired by Omani fortresses of old, the whitewashed resort comprises a main building overlooking the infinity pool and low-rise villas linked by paths lined with banana trees and coconut palms.
There are 40 Premier and Deluxe rooms, each with a balcony, neutral décor and dark wood furniture. Rich traditional fabrics and old carved wooden shutters hang on the walls. The large bathrooms come with egg-shaped baths and picture windows. The 96 villas boast lovely little extras like straw hats, sarongs, footballs and frisbees, and almost all come with a private pool.
Sakalan is a lovely place to dine on an a la carte menu while looking out to sea. Al Mina has a relaxed beach bar vibe, with a Mediterranean lunch and dinner menu, classy cocktails and shisha. Mekong restaurant serves fabulous Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine.
Guests can relax at the exotic infinity pool, or soak up the sea view from the private shore. Ancient rituals are performed at the spa, and there’s also a gym, watersports centre, outdoor infinity pool, kids club, library, and tennis, volleyball, badminton and basketball courts.
