Cruising from Iceland to Scotland

Hop aboard the Sea Spirit and visit some of Europe’s most remote islands.

Your 14 day journey starts off in Iceland’s city of Akureyri and slowly making your way to Reykjavik, and Vestmannaeyjar. The next leg of your journey brings you to the faraway land of Faroe Islands, where rare birds flock. Finish off your cruise by visiting the most remote areas of Scotland before heading into Edinburg.

Day 1: Arrival into Ijmuiden

Upon arrival in the Netherlands, you will be transported to the port where you will embark on Sea Spirit.

Day 2: At sea

Relax and watch admire the endless body of water that surrounds you as the Sea Spirit makes its way to Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh.

Day 3: Edinburgh

The Scottish capital is a bustling UNESCO World Heritage Site. Atop a series of rocky hills overlooking the sea, Edinburgh can only be described as one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. Landscape and cityscape intertwine for dramatic effect.

Day 4: Kirkwall

Today, you will reach and disembark at Kirkwall, the capital of the Orkney archipelago, which divides East and West Mainland. Visit the town’s main attractions, St Magnus Cathedral, one of the finest medieval buildings in the north of the country. The Bishop’s Palace and Earls’ Palace are also worth the detour.

Day 5: North Ronaldsay

North Ronaldsay is the northernmost part of the Orkney Islands. Here, seaweed-eating sheep run free. The island is home to a rich and diverse population of wildlife, specifically rare birds, as well as the North Ronaldsay Birth Observatory

Day 6: Torshavn

The capital of Faroe Islands, Tórshavn, is a picturesque and colourful town. Stroll through the city and meet the friendly locals.

Day 7: Vagar Cliffs – Mykines

The Vagar Cliffs and Mykines are the westernmost part of the Faroe Islands, where you will have the opportunity of exploring its natural beauty.

Budding ornithologist will be impatient to discover Mykines, the “paradise of birds”. The puffin is the main attraction as it poses for photos fish in beak!

Day 8: Djúpivogur and Vatnajökull ice cap

In the early morning, you will dock at Djupivogur settlement, a tiny fishing village which boasts raw beauty. The views of the marvelous Bulandstrindur mountains are a must, as is bird watching.

Optional tour: Vatnajökull ice cap – the largest glacier in Europe

Day 9: Seyðisfjörður

Seyðisfjörður is a colourful Norwegian-style town with wooden houses dating back to the beginning of the 20th century.

Active travellers can hike up the river trail through a verdant landscape of wildflowers.

Day 10: Akureyri – Lake Myvatn

Akureyri, also known as the ‘Capital of North Iceland’ is located just behind a superb fjord. Being the second largest city in the country, it is very lively, which you will see as you stroll through its streets.

Option tour: Lake Myvatn, known for being the most geologically active area in Iceland.

Day 11: Isafjordur - Vigur Island

In the morning, you will explore one of Iceland’s most beautiful fjord, the Isafjordur, known primarily for its relief. Look out for the old wooden houses, a remnant from the port’s major fishing days. You will witness the lifestyle of the inhabitants as well as admire the splendid the steep mountains of the Western Fjords.

In the afternoon, a zodiac will take you out to Vigur cliffs, home to various birds.

Day 12: Látrabjarg – Flatey Island

In the morning you will cruise by the Latrabjarg cliff, which is a breeding ground for millions of seabirds.

In the afternoon, you will see the coastline of Flatey Island from aboard a zodiac and once you reach the shores, you will visit a tiny village.

Day 13: Grundafjordur village – Snæfellsjökull ice cap

Grundarfjördur is a typical Icelandic fishing village which you will have the chance to explore. Here, you will notice that people live as one with nature.

Later on in the day, you will hop aboard a zodiac to the nearby Breiðafjörður islands and marvel at the rich birdlife there.

If you prefer something more adventurous, an option would be to hike the Snæfellsjökull ice cap.

Day 14: Reykjavik and departure

Welcome to Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik, the northernmost capital of a sovereign state. Its colourful buildings and quirky people are bound to enchant you, as are the planned activities of the day.

Today you will disembark Sea Spirit to either stay on or catch your return flight home.
