Shutters on the Beach

California

Blending laid back beach-house with luxury, Shutters on the Beach takes the craft of living well – and stylishly – seriously.

Rooms feature hardwood floors, cashmere throws, built-in entertainment centers and shelves stocked with books. Continuing the homely feel throughout, artworks by Hockney, Lichtenstein, and Motherwell adorn the walls and old leather sofas fill the lounge areas that are whitewashed in soothing sand and sea colors.

There are two restaurants: One Pico, overlooking the sea, offers locally sourced fish, and spit-roasted meats; the coast is the inviting oceanfront cafe offering fresh California dishes; The Lobby Lounge also serves light snacks and cocktails.

Outside, the beach is on your doorstep and there’s also an outdoor heated pool, a fitness center, bicycle rentals, surfing lessons, and yoga sessions can be arranged on the sand. In line with the horizontal vibe is the ONE Spa, which has a range of treatments available to provide a pampering session to remember.

Why we recommend Shutters on the Beach

This is the ultimate in Cali-cool! Laid-back, luxurious, and languishing right on the sands, it’s a relaxing stay with a side of glamour. Refreshed in 2005 by Michael S Smith - the iconic designer who also led the redesign of the White House – modern art and literature feature heavily, alongside a rooftop pool, breezy eateries, health and fitness activities and a lot of sunshine.
