Growing up in the UK, Keira's childhood holidays revolved around Europe - from family camping trips in France to fun excursions with friends to the Canary Islands. However, Kiera always had a desire to explore further and in 2004, fresh out of university, the long-awaited ‘year out travels’ commenced. This trip took her to Mexico, Fiji, New Zealand and Australia, but it was on her final journey through Asia that the travel bug really set in.
Returning to the UK, Keira spent six years working for one of the leading UK-based luxury tour operators. However, her love affair with Asia did not falter and this culminated in a move to Hong Kong in 2012. Today she is Head of Sales at Lightfoot Travel and not only does she get to live in one of the most exciting cities in the world, but she's lucky enough to have the rest of Asia on her doorstep.
Keira 's Picks
- Hotel: Ras Kutani, Tanzania - A few hours and a world away from Dar es Salaam, Ras Kutani really is the perfect place to relax after a Tanzanian safari. With only 15 cottages, the emphasis is on service, barefoot luxury, and total rejuvenation.
- Memory: Orangutan spotting, Kalimantan, Indonesia - You know you're having a once in a lifetime experience when you're a bit nervous about how close you are to wild orangutans! I could have reached out and stroked a mother and baby – although my guide quietly reminded me this would not have been the wisest move!
- Cultural Experience: Hot Stone Bath, Bhutan - At Amankora in Gantey Valley I had a traditional bath in water heated naturally by hot stones. As if this wasn't impressive enough, it took place in a shed in the middle of a field. The windows were wide open showcasing amazing views of the landscape.
