My passion for travel was awakened at a young age when as a young child my parents temporarily took me out of school to drive around a big portion of Australia, camping in a never ending string of unique and breath-taking locations. Since then I have lived on 4 continents and still have an ever growing bucket list. These days I would prefer an over water pool villa in the Maldives to a tent in Kakadu but I still combine more off the beaten path experiences with luxury and comfort where possible. I have worked in the travel industry for nearly 15 years, based in Australia, Switzerland, Hong Kong and Canada. No two days are ever the same and I still love what I do.

Belinda 's Picks

  • Memory: Punting down the Sekonyer River in Kalimantan, Borneo, on a traditional wooden klotok that was my home for 5 days. Everything was peaceful, still and quiet, so relaxing! And then a rustling, followed by crashing, followed by occasional glimpses of bright orange flashing through the leaves. Suddenly there he was, my first “wild man of the forest”. Seeing the beautiful and so gentle orangutans in the wild will always be one of my favourite and most emotional travel memories.
  • Country: After living in Lucerne for two years I am definitely biased towards Switzerland as my favourite country. The natural setting is unparalleled with mountains, lakes, green hills everywhere you look. Yes, you do even see cows with bells around their necks! Not only is it the most stunning country for its Alpen environment, it also has the wonderfully preserved history that you would expect in a European country with cobblestone streets, beautifully painted houses and wonderfully preserved wooden bridges.
  • Road trip: A few years ago I was lucky enough to do a road trip through Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia. Hungary was really interesting, we went to so many places where there was no English spoken and the towns still reflected the wounds of the past century. Slovenia and Croatia however, were two of the most beautiful countries. There was so much to do and see and each town was as fascinating as the last.
