Wa Ale Island Resort raised the bar for barefoot eco-chic when it opened in Lampi Marine National Park, an ASEAN Marine Heritage site off the western shores of Southern Myanmar, in October 2018. Set on pristine white-sand and flanked by rocky cliffs, this is a nature lover’s paradise.

The resort comprises 11 family-sized tented beach villas and three plush treetop villas that boast a boho-feel of wood, bamboo furniture and quirky patterns complimented by ocean views, outdoor showers and private decks. A huge thumbs up goes to the use of reclaimed and local materials and alternative sources of energy for power so there’s minimal impact on the environment.

Beach Restaurant & Bar is a cool thatched open-air area, while River Café & Bar offers light lunches and barbeque dinners.

There are plenty activities for all. Discover whale sharks, dolphins, dugongs, turtles and manta rays. Paddle board or kayak through the mangroves, and  immerse yourself in local culture with a visit to a local Moken fishing community.

Lucerne, Interlaken & the Swiss Alps

The city of Lucerne is quintessentially Swiss. Picturesque spires and churches and elegant edifices line the cobblestone streets. No one would blame you for getting lost perusing the Old town while taking in all its beauty.

While it may not boast the extravagant nightlife and high-end retail heaven of cities like Zurich, this is the place to cozy up in one of the many beer halls or cafes and enjoy craft lager or a cappuccino. There are many interesting things to see like the Lion monument, Kapellbrücke, 14th-century octagonal water tower, and the Spreuer Bridge. There are plenty of excellent museums, so we certainly recommend taking in some culture.

Zermatt is the epitome of Alpine beauty; a fairy-tale 19th century Swiss village set against the iconic Matterhorn – a mighty peak, conquered for the first time by British mountaineer Edward Whymper some 150 years ago. Its high-altitude glaciers mean you can ski in Zermatt 365 days a year.

Zermatt’s ski area covers some 360km and is globally recognised as top-tier ski resort. Our experience of Zermatt has found that it is one of the best resorts in the world for intermediate, while also being a superb choice for families. Its glacial-skiing, spectacular off-piste trails and a cluster of 4,000 metre plus peaks on the Klein Matterhorn ensure there is plenty to challenge advanced skiers. Zermatt’s high-altitude makes it noticeably snowsure the year around.

Lugano & Southern Switzerland

The passion of Italy. The Alpine beauty of Switzerland. Ticino offers the best of all worlds. This Italian-speaking region of southern Switzerland is full of palm trees, pristine beaches, piazzas, churches, and delicious Mediterranean cuisine. The region stretches from the Alpine to the Mediterranean, covering vastly different territory along the way. In just a few kilometres you can travel from the mountains down rolling hills and to the sea, enjoying Italian weather, Italian style, Italian architecture, language, and food along the way.

Explore Lugano, a town on the eponymous lake known for its vibrant waterfront promenade lined with gardens and sculptures. Marvel at medieval churches and picturesque lanes in Mendrisiotto. Breathe in the sweet scent of camellias in Gambarogno. Or explore the castles in Bellinzona, a UNESCO Heritage site. In Ticino you can follow the Swiss tradition of living an active life in the magnificent Alps, and the Italian tradition, doing so with a glass of full-bodied vino in hand.
