Trekking the Peruvian Highlands

“A big misconception about Peru is that there is just the classic ‘Inca Trail’. Lesser known treks such as this one can be just as incredible and rewarding.”

Day 1

Day 1
Arrival Cusco

Upon arrival in Cusco you’ll be met at the airport and escorted to your accommodation. The rest of your day will be spent at your leisure, armed with our list of recommended attractions and restaurants to ensure that you have a great start to your trip.

Day 2

Day 2
Cusco – Soraypampa

Explore the Inca ruins of Tarawasi before stopping in the mountain village of Mollepata to visit El Pedregal, a beautiful farmhouse where you can learn about local life and agriculture.

Visit the site of Challacancha where you’ll begin your hike to Soraypampa along a picturesque path known as ‘Camino Real’ (Royal Path).

Day 3

Day 3
Hike to Lake Humantay

Begin your half day hike to Lake Humantay with an ascent up the slopes. On the way witness the turquoise water of Lake Humantay and become part of  “Pachamama” (Mother Earth).

The afternoon will be spent at leisure at the lodge. This is your chance to really unwind with a soak in the outdoor jacuzzi or a relaxing massage.

Day 4

Day 4
Crossing the Salkantay Pass

Hike up the Rio Blanco valley, circling Humantay Peak. The most challenging part of your ascent will be conquering the mountain switchbacks that take you to the Salkantay Pass - the highest point on the trek.

After a hot picnic lunch you’ll continue your ascent through rolling hills and plateaus.

Day 5

Day 5
Into the Cloud Forest

Continue your descent along the banks of the Salkantay River. You’ll arrive at Colpa Lodge in time for a Pachamanca lunch before spending the rest of the afternoon at leisure. You'll have our list of recommendations and your private guides on hand. Your Travel Designer will be able to recommend activities that suit your needs.

Day 6

Day 6
The Santa Teresa River Valley

Hike in the Santa Teresa River valley, hopping over small streams and crossing through fruit orchards.

A picnic will be served by the river before you embark on the ‘Llactapata Inca Trail’. On the way you’ll visit an organic coffee plantation.
