Island Hopping in the Galapagos

The Galapagos is such a unique destination teeming with endemic species. I’ll always remember my first Galapagos snorkelling trip where I encountered inquisitive baby sea lions, numerous sea turtles, eagle rays and the odd penguin diving down to catch fish.

Day 1

Day 1
Arrival Guayaquil

Upon arrival you’ll be transferred to your accommodation.

Day 2

Day 2
Airport transfer - Isabela Island

Today you’ll fly from Guayaquil to Baltra and hope on either a boat or another domestic flight to Isabela Island. Go on an excursion of the island for the rest of the day.

Day 3

Day 3
Sierra Negra Volcano / Tin Toreras / Wall of Tears

Today you’ll explore Isabela Island.

Head to Sierra Negra and walk along the rim of Galapagos’ largest caldera spotting finches, flycatchers, mockingbirds, and perhaps the Galapagos hawk; go to the Tintoreras Islets and board the bay cruiser to explore a maze of reefs and islets; or embark on a coastal trail along the Wall of Tears, taking you through mangroves and brackish lagoons while looking for coastal Darwin finches, doves, stilts, ducks, flamingos, herons and giant tortoises.

Day 4

Day 4
Santa Cruz: Highlands Arrival Day Visit

Fly back to Baltra before crossing the Itabaca Channel to Santa Cruz Island. Here you’ll explore the natural volcanic formation of Los Gemelos, and visit the Tortoise Reserve and lava tunnels.

In the afternoon, you’ll be escorted to your accommodation and the rest of the day will be spent at your leisure.

Day 5

Day 5
Island Yacht Exploration

Several options are available today.

North Seymour. Head to North Seymour where you can spot land and marine iguanas, Nazca- and blue-footed boobies, frigates, sea lions and fur seals. Afterwards, relax on the stunning beach.

Santa Fe. Scale the rocky terrain on Santa Fe to find the endemic Santa Fe land iguana. Other species you can see are pelicans, boobies and the Galapagos hawk.

Bartolome. Embark on a 21-nautical mile sailing stretch, spotting dolphins and whales as you go. Once on land, walk up to the tilted pinnacle rock, the golden beach of Bartolome and the lava fields of Santiago Island.

South Plaza. Experience the snorkelling and swimming site of Punta Carrion, before sailing to South Plaza Island with its dozens of frolicking sea lion pups, patrolling alpha male sea lions, basking marine and land iguanas, stunning red crabs and Darwin finches.

Day 6

Day 6
Tortuga Bay

Visit Tortuga Bay to see Playa Brava, a seasonal nesting site for the green sea turtles; and Playa Mansa, a secluded natural mangrove cove. Go swimming, snorkelling or paddling on tandem kayaks.

In the afternoon visit the Charles Darwin Research Station which is home to iconic giant tortoises.
