Sitting at 3260 metres, Simien Lodge is famous for being the highest hotel in Africa, making it the ideal stay for adventurous travellers who crave the 'Everest base camp' experience.
There are 26 main rooms (or ‘tukel’ - the name that Ethiopians give to a house). In the case of Simien lodge, the tukel forms two rooms with two bathrooms with a shower. Rooms are tastefully decorated in Ethiopian décor with original artworks, and feature under-floor heating by solar power, quilts with pure white cotton sheets and hot water. The family rooms comprise of two rooms and a bathroom.
In the evening a set meal is served in the cosy restaurant. An a la carte menu of Ethiopian and European food is on offer throughout the day, and a special Champagne Lunch is available upon request. There’s also an authentic and homely-feeling bar complete with warm furnishings and the title of ‘the highest place to get a drink in Africa’.
Entertainment takes place most evenings, or you may prefer to simply relax while watching the stars above the incredible landscape.
