“Tortuga Lodge & Gardens is a sophisticated river lodge, bringing guests closer to nature in total luxury. As it’s not possible to drive here, the adventure begins immediately, as you’re escorted to the property by bus and boat, or by light aircraft. The plantation home-style accommodations are homely and comfortable, with quite a safari camp feel. Make yourself comfortable in the hammocks, next to the relaxing dipping pool or the riverside gazebo.”
Perched on a riverbank surrounded by dense jungle and exotic gardens, Tortuga Lodge is a luxury resort adjoining Tortuguero National Park. Accessible via boat or light aircraft, this eco-friendly lodge offers an immersive nature experience and the opportunity to see turtles nest and hatch on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast.
There are 27 rooms and suites spread around several rustic buildings, with hammocks on balconies and terraces. Inside, creamy linens, colourful handmade textiles and vintage photos create a classic safari vibe, while open windows have large mosquito nets so the sounds of the jungle filter inside.
The Green Turtle restaurant serves traditional Costa Rican and Caribbean cuisine with a side order of beautiful river views. There’s also a bar serving cocktails and a riverside swimming pool.
The turtles are the main attraction, along with 50 acres of private land to explore, abundant birds and wildlife, boat trips, and cultural visits.
