“Virunga Lodge is a lovely eco-friendly lodge, built close to the Volcanoes National Park. Rooms are thoughtfully decorated, with flush toilets and hot showers in the en suite bathrooms. After a day on safari, returning to the cosy lounge area is a welcome retreat with a circular open fire, lots of comfy chairs and plenty of books and board games.”
Virunga Lodge feels as if it’s located on top of the world, on landscaped grounds in the rugged wild of Rwanda, enveloped in mist. Perched high on a ridge in Volcanoes National Park, it offers stunning views of the area’s five majestic volcanoes and of Burera and Ruhonda twin lakes.
The Lodge is built in traditional bush-chic style from wood and stone. Each of the ten bandas (cottages) have a terrace with gorgeous views, and everything has been built with a sensitivity to the environment, ensuring the structures are both low impact and fit seamlessly into the rustic environs.
Relax around the outdoor fire and swap stories of the day. Track gorillas and golden monkeys through the jungle. Visit the grave of renowned conservationist, Dian Fossey. Hike to the top of volcanoes. Visit a local school. A stay at Virunga Lodge is an opportunity to connect with yourself, with fellow travellers, and with the power of nature.
