Madikwe & the Waterberg

Take a short an hour flight from Johannesburg and find yourself in the 75,000 acres Madikwe Game Reserve.

It’s not only big, but it is home to the world’s largest wildlife translocation project, and over the years has become one of the best-run reserves in the country. Here you are very likely to see Africa’s ‘Big Five’ (elephant, rhino, buffalo, leopard, and lion), along with many other species. The area is malaria-free and there’s a choice of luxury accommodation ranging from family-friendly lodges to romantic honeymoon retreats. The best time to visit Madikwe is between April and November.
