HokkaidoKawayu Kanko Hotel is a traditional Japanese onsen hotel in Teshikaga, Hokkaido, close to Lake Kussharo and Lake Mashu. It has three, newly renovated onsen using water from the region which is slightly acidic and renowned for its natural anti-bacterial properties.
The guestrooms are mostly Japanese style, with tatami mats, futon bedding and a low seating area. There are also a handful of Western-style and Japanese-Western rooms in the LOHASpa categories that have the option of private, in-room dining. All rooms have mountain views.
The restaurant serves buffet-style Japanese cuisine, featuring fresh produce including beef, crab and local vegetables.
The onsen has indoor and outdoor hot spring baths as well as a sauna, each split into private male and female baths. The hotel makes a great base for trekking in the national park, canoeing on the lakes, and bird and wildlife watching.
