Ndali Lodge

Uganda

Perched on the rim of Lake Nyinambuga, an ancient crater lake in western Uganda, Ndali Lodge is a traditional colonial lodge with fantastic views. Part of a 1,000-acre estate cultivating bananas, coffee and vanilla, this luxury lodge is surrounded by wildlife and has a focus on sustainability.

The lodge accommodates up to 16 guests in 8 thatched cottages built of local stone. The simple rooms are welcoming, with four-poster beds draped in mosquito netting, en suites with bath and shower, and a large veranda overlooking the Rwenzori Mountains.

The main lodge hosts meals by candlelight – there’s no electricity here, with solar lighting in the guest cottages. There’s also a sitting room, library, and outdoor swimming pool.

Ndali Lodge is ideally placed for chimpanzee trekking in the Kibale Forest National Park or birding in Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary. Guests are also invited on guided walks, waterfall and nature treks, and can go swimming or kayaking in the crater lake.

Why we recommend Ndali Lodge

“Ndali Lodge is eccentric and nostalgic. Located on a high, sheer-sided ridge, one side drops into a volcanic crater lake and the other looks out across a Lord of the Rings landscape of forests and plantations, lakes and plains. This is a great base from where to track the chimpanzees of Kibale Forest. Do note that all lighting is by candle or storm lantern.”
