Galle, Sri Lanka
Perched on the ocean edge, facing rolling surf and set amidst lush greenery, lies the playful paradise that is the Owl And The Pussycat Hotel (OTP).
Painted in bright tropical hues, this stylish boutique escape takes its inspiration from the poem, The Owl and the Pussycat, by Edward Lear, and the geniality of his work is present throughout the entire property.
A mix of cheery antique and modern fabrics and furniture have been sourced from local craftsmen as well as India, Turkey and Italy. There are collages on the walls, wire sculptures, and lots of quirky touches for a fun and sophisticated homely feel.
The 17 bedrooms and suites boast a contemporary mix of polished concrete, cool calicoes and handcrafted details. Each one comes with all modern amenities, interspersed with vibrant pops of colour that rival the tropical flora of the gardens. Wide windows and expansive terraces offer breathtaking horizons.
As for facilities, there’s a gym, pool, TV and computer room, drawing room, plus a cabana for wonderful massages. Yoga lessons are also available on request.
The Runcible Spoon is an open-air restaurant by the sea serving up a dazzling variety of Sri Lankan flavours with global accents. The adjoining bar comes with a beach shack vibe and lies under a pretty canopy of coconut trees. As the sun sets, guests can settle in with a locally twisted cocktail while listening to live jazz at weekends.
To add to the magic, seaside massages take place on the water’s edge to the soundtrack of the rolling waves.
