Stafford Bungalow is nestled on a 50-acre working tea plantation overlooking the mountains, near the hill station of Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka’s hill country. Built by Scottish planters in 1884 and restored in 2013, there’s plenty of space and two large verandas with views of the verdant landscape.

The four spacious bedrooms home up to ten people and feature a clean, classic design, with cool white walls and dark antique furniture.
An in-house chef prepares all meals including traditional high tea which can be enjoyed in the dining pavilion. A butler is on hand to attend to your every need.

There’s also an elegant library decorated with local artworks and a tennis court. Go for a stroll or cycle around the estate, visit a nearby tea factory or sample homemade scones in front of the fireplace. You can also visit Nuwara Eliya, Hakgala Botanical Gardens, and Horton Plains. Boating on Lake Gregory is a must.

Location & Getting There
Stafford Bungalow is located around 30 minutes from the hill station of Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka. It borders the town of Ragala and is 2 hours from Kandy, 3 hours 45 minutes from Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport, and nearly 5 hours from Bandaranaike International Airport, Colombo.

Accommodation
The cottage accommodates up to 10 guests in 4 spacious rooms (a 57-sqm Master Suite, 2 Deluxe Rooms, and a 58-sqm Family Suite). Each room has been finished to a high standard, and features a king-size bed, teak furniture, wooden floors, and a large bathroom. The magnificent Master Suite comes with a four-poster bed and a sit-out area. The cottage can be rented on an exclusive basis or rooms can be rented individually.

Activities
Activities on the property are heavily tea-orientated. There are walking trails and mountain biking routes through the tea bushes, you can pick your own tea, which can be sampled later, or visit a tea factory and enjoy a tea tasting demonstration. You can also play tennis. Nuwara Eliya, Hakgala Botanical Gardens, and Lake Gregory are all worth a visit.

Children
The cottage is a great spot for families. There is plenty of space for the children to play and there is a large family suite as well as a nanny room.
