Skeleton Coast Safaris

Skeleton Coast

The Skeleton Coast conjures up mysterious visions of mist-enshrouded beaches strewn with bleached whalebones and rusted shipwrecks. Stretching from the south of Namibia up into Angola, it’s a vast area of rolling sand dunes, expanses of uninhabited desert plains, fossil beds, geological formations, desert-adapted animals and strange vegetation.

Run by a local family, Skeleton Coasts Safaris takes guests on an epic adventure across the beautiful landscape where you’ll experience fascinating bird’s-eye views of the surroundings before exploring by Land Rover or on foot.

Accommodation consists of three fully equipped tented desert camps. The first of these is in the lower reaches of the Huab River in the Erongo Region (Damaraland). The second lies under camelthorn trees and Makalani Palms in the Hoarusib Valley in the Kunene Region, and the third is located on the north western Namibian Border overlooking the Kunene River.

All of the camps are simple yet high quality. The rooms have en suite facilities complete with bucket showers and outside areas that house a couple of directors chairs and a table.

Why we recommend Skeleton Coast Safaris

“Quite possibly the very definition of an authentic fly-in safari, the family run and guided Skeleton Coast Safari is like none other. Favouring location and experience over fancy dwellings, this once-in-a-lifetime adventure takes place with the Schoeman family who have grown up in the area and oversee three camp locations. Enjoy flying at ‘see’ level for breathtaking views before landing and exploring by Land Rover or on foot.”
