An idyllic, stunning and private villa, this is one of Sri Lanka’s most luxurious destinations.
Set on a magnificent sandy stretch of beach in Habaraduwa on the island’s palm-pocked southern coast, Sisindu’s beauty is in its implicit simplicity. It consists of little more than a spacious open plan ground floor with full kitchen and lounge leading out to a wide dining veranda, and two identical upstairs bedrooms. Sleeping, lounging and dining areas pay homage to the panaromic beach vistas that one simply cannot experience Sri Lanka without.
Despite the villa’s innate simplicity, Sisindu C is an immensely stylish place to stay – reflected in its sea green, sky blue and white colour scheme. In addition to style, the owners have made sure the comforts of every guest are catered for.
The huge ground floor lounge teems with cushion-plumped built-in sofas, huddled beside tables topped with books and magazines. On the threshold of the garden lies a mesmerising swimming pool flanked by loungers and cushy blue floor cushions, which magnetically trap the sun during the day. Between the pool and the beach is a lush green lawn topped by a west-facing sunset ambalama (pavilion).
The villa’s two spacious bedrooms are reached via a back staircase that leads to an upper balcony furnished with loungers for views of the garden, beach and sea. Each bedroom is identical in layout and design, having four-poster king-size beds, mosaic-embossed side tables, cupboards and built-in sofas topped with cushions. They are air conditioned, and also come with ceiling fans. Bathrooms feature twin sinks, rain showers and textured driftwood mirrors.
Sisindu C is fully staffed, including a cleaner, night watchman and experienced chef versed in international cuisine. The western-style kitchen is fully equipped and guests are welcome to use it if they wish to cook a meal for themselves, although the chef’s obvious talents in the kitchen will surely deflect any craving to cook. The friendly owners of the villa often pop in and say hello, but otherwise leave you to your own devices. The villa’s location is excellent; the beach beyond the villa is wide and long, so it’s perfect for a morning or evening jog or stroll.
Only two and a half hours from Colombo International Airport, this is easily accessible by car, making it the ideal luxury retreat.
