Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania
Sand Rivers Selous is a haven of natural luxury, a small, peaceful yet vibrant safari lodge in the northern part o the vast Selous Game Reserve. Set on a sweeping curve of the great Rufiji River, the lodge is both an expedition base and a safari retreat that has been well loved by safari enthusiasts for years.
The lodge is at the centre of a natural melting pot of very diverse habitats – gorges to open plains, woodland to lakes. It’s the base for some of Tanzania’s best safari guides to take you out on adventures; boating on the Rufiji up to Kidai Island, game drives on the trail of lion, or wild dog, an elephant bush walk, a night sleeping under the stars, or fishing in solitude, barefoot off a river rock.
Accomodation at Sand Rivers is in spacious open-fronted cottages raised on the banks of the Rufiji River. There are 5 Riverside rooms and 3 Hillside Suites. All have en-suite bathrooms, with flush loos, powerful showers and hot and cold running water. The suites have the addition of a small plunge pool and a large living space.
The main mess area is spacious, open fronted and cool. There is a chill out area near the library and acres of places to enjoy the delicious cuisine, freshly made by the exceptional chef. There is a main swimming pool for all guests to enjoy, a perfect place to enjoy a relaxing dip after a dusty game drive.
Lightfoot Travel provides tailor-made itineraries that include daily tours and excursions, restaurant recommendations and bookings, and can incorporate the Selous into a greater Tanzania and African holiday.
