Siem Reap, Cambodia
Befitting a name that means “green village” in Khmer, Phum Baitang sits nestled within eight acres of lush gardens and paddy fields near Siem Reap, the gateway to Angkor’s World Heritage Sites. This elegant hideaway was inspired by the adage, “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication,” and it is indeed a study in authenticity and purity of form – Cambodia at its most beautiful.
Forty-five spacious villas are built on the principles of a traditional Khmer village with stilted thatched roof structures made of local stone and wood. Many of the villas come with a private terrace or plunge pool, and all enjoy elegant interiors where pieces of handmade furniture such as carved-wood headboards and freestanding wooden baths, blend seamlessly with local market antique finds.
An ancient farmhouse on the property has been converted into an inviting cocktail lounge, reminiscent of Cambodia’s golden days. There are also two restaurants, including the delightful Bay Phsar where guests can enjoy fresh organic ingredients that come from the resort’s own gardens, and combine perfectly with rice harvested from the surrounding paddy fields. There is also a luxurious spa temple, a peaceful yoga pavilion, and a 50 metre outdoor infinity pool that encourage total relaxation after exploring the many natural wonders and ancient cultural experiences of Siem Reap.
