Yala National Park, Sri Lanka
Kulu Safaris is the first operator of mobile tented camping safaris in Sri Lanka. These tailor-made safaris combine professional guides, luxury camping facilities all deep within the National Parks of Yala, Uda Walawe and Wilpattu.
The safari experience is a unique adventure and ideal as an add on to a stay in some of Sri Lanka’s finest hotels. The South African designed and made tents which you sleep in provide a queen size bed, hot water shower facilities and a separate loo tent. There is a verandah for you to relax on outside of your tent after a day spent exploring some of the most fascinating national parks of Sri Lanka, abundant with wildlife – including leopards, elephants and bears and not to mention some spectacular bird watching. Despite the remoteness of the camping locations, the gourmet food is excellent and the chefs play a marvellous role in the whole mobile tented camping experience. The food is cooked in customized kitchens fully equipped with sufficient fridge and freezer capacity to ensure you receive that ice-cold beer right on time! There is a separate tent to serve as your ‘living room’, as well as comfortable chairs making up a verandah allowing you the privacy to read or merely unwind.
In the camp there are also two physical two-level buildings with 1 upstairs room and 1 downstairs. Some have air-conditioning and some are open aired options. You have the choice of a king bed or more casual rooms suited to a group of children bunking together. These structures have proper attached showers, sinks and hot/cold water. The rooms are fully equipped with mosquito nets and proper lighting.
The comfortable 4WD vehicles have been adapted to suit wildlife watching and photography and are an ideal vehicle to use to spot the wildlife in the area under the guidance of expert trackers and guides. Uda Walawe is known for its vast herds of elephant and Wilpattu is home to the highest density of mammals in Sri Lanka, particularity the elusive leopard. For birders, there is a high number of wetland birds such as Lesser Flamingoes, Pelicans, Spoonbills and Painted Storks. If you have a specific interest, Kulu Safaris are more than happy to put together a personalised itinerary and a certain guide for you to maximise your experience whilst on safari.
