Annapurna Conservation Area, Nepal
Spanning across massive peaks of the Annapurna mountain range, the collection of Ker and Downey Mountain Lodges hold first-rate hospitality standards for comfortable lodging along the stunning Nepalese Himalayas.
On a ridge at 3,600 feet, Sanctuary Lodge commands spectacular views of Pokhara Valley and the hallowed Macchapucchare, also known as Fishtail Mountain. Framed by burgeoning gardens and lawns, the lodge provides 10 modest rooms with warm beds, equipped with a central fireplace and a cosy library. Visit the locals at Birethanti village, or explore the surrounding Modi River Valley, observing mules voyaging across the suspension bridge adorned with prayer flags.
Higher up, Gurung Lodge stands on the edge of Majgaun Village at 4,620 feet. Accommodating 5 tribal-styled cottages, each with 2 separate bedrooms and slate bathrooms, Gurung Lodge reigns over an unrestricted scope of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Heightened at an altitude of 5,000 feet, offering a sweeping vista of the Phedi and Mardi Valleys, the 8 quaint rooms of Basanta Lodge rest on the boundaries of Dhampus. You will be able to trek through the sub-tropical forests of bamboos, conifers and rhododendrons close-by.
Scaling Nepali terrains at 6,560 feet, Himalaya Lodge is a 19th Century Gurung house towered only by the majestic crowns of Annapurna South and Hiunchuili. Overlooking the village of Ghandruk, once a dominant recruitment centre for Gurkha soldiers, the lodge houses 11 comfortable rooms made up by an exceptional line of gracious service staff rivalling no other in the Annapurna region.
These lodges have a unique routing through the locality, away from the standardised treks of the Annapurna range. The magic comes from the quality of private guiding and interaction with the authenticity of everyday village life as the accommodation is relatively basic.
