Monte Carlo, Monaco
In the heart of the Monte-Carlo district of Monaco, the glorious Belle Epoque façade of the world-famous Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo sits on the legendary casino square, overlooking the Boulingrins Gardens.
The hotel where rock stars mix with royalty dates from 1886 and was taken over and renovated in 2004. Far from resting on its (highly prestigious) laurels, the Metropole Monte-Carlo is keeping up with the glitz and glamour that surrounds it. Top designers including Jacques Garcia and Karl Lagerfeld have been tasked with keeping it contemporary while remaining true to its traditions and its history.
The Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo has 69 rooms and 64 suites. In the bedrooms, as in the remainder of the hotel, period furniture sits alongside flowing fabrics, carefully arranged artefacts, and entirely modern comforts.
Two of the Metropole Monte-Carlo’s most notable features are its restaurants, and its spa.
France’s famous chef Joël Robuchon is behind the two Michelin starred Joël Robuchon Monte-Carlo as well as his first Japanese restaurant; Yoshi, also recipient of a Michelin star. As if that weren’t enough, a third Joël Robuchon outlet; Odyssey, opened in 2013, with a Grecian mural designed by Lagerfeld alongside the heated swimming pool, around which al fresco Mediterranean food is served.
The Metropole ESPA Monte-Carlo is the only ESPA in Monaco or France, has the only saltwater pool in Monte-Carlo, and is housed in a discreet annex alongside the hotel’s main building. Two of the treatment rooms have their own private hammam and bath, and the list of treatments and customisable therapies is huge.
The hotel is surrounded by lush exotic gardens, half of which appear to have been brought inside to fill the vast and spectacular flower vases throughout the public rooms.
