Just 50 metres from the Pantheon, the Grand Hotel de la Minerve is one of Rome’s more historic hotels. Overlooking the cobblestone Piazza della Minerva, the hotel occupies a 17th century Renaissance mansion, whose magnificent façade and Art Deco hallway set the scene for arriving guests.
The Grand Hotel de la Minerve has 135 rooms blending modern comforts with antique furnishings –go for a deluxe if you value spaciousness. Some rooms have frescoes and four poster beds, while others have original wood beams in their ceiling. The Grand Deluxe rooms overlook Piazza della Minerva.
On the Grand Hotel de la Minerve’s large and beautiful rooftop terrace, the hotel’s restaurant the Minerva Roof Garden has panoramic views of Rome, including St Peter’s Basilica, and actually overlooks the dome of the neighbouring Pantheon. This is a fantastic spot for sunset cocktails as well as an excellent dinner.
During winter months, the Grand Hotel de la Minerve’s bar Le Cupole moves from the Roof Garden into the hotel’s entrance hall, once the palace’s winter garden. Le Cupole serves snacks as well as cocktails and drinks. Breakfast is served in La Cesta restaurant.
If you’re lucky enough to be invited to a wedding here – or indeed are the ones sending out the invitations – you’ll discover that the Grand Hotel de la Minerve is one of very few hotels worldwide to have its own private chapel.
