Calchaqui Valley, Argentina
The Cafayate wine region is located around three hours’ drive from Molinos or 3.5 hours from Salta, either route is impressive. From Molinos Ruta 40 crosses the dunes towards the impressive Quebrada de las Flechas (Gorge of Arrows) a desert of weathered arrow-shaped limestone peaks. The route to/from Salta takes drivers through the Quebrada de las Conchas (Gorge of Shells) a spectacular deep canyon enclosed by red-coloured cliffs. Cafayate is a region of wineries, rolling hills and the Quilmes Inca ruins, the finest in the country. It is a truly spectacular region in Argentina.
