Raas Devigarh is housed in an incredibly romantic 18th-century palace in the village of Delwara, a 45 minute drive from Udaipur. It was, until the mid-20th century the royal residence of the rulers of Delwara principality. Hidden in the Aravali Hills, this stunning little gem has been intricately resorted into one of the most luxurious and sublime boutique retreats in India.
Having been restored from ruin, it is a breathtaking all suite ‘palace’ hotel which prides itself on world-class intimate and personalised service. The fort’s entirely traditional facade belies the interior which boasts 39 unique and luxurious suites all with clean lines and an almost minimalist approach which gives the rooms a fresh, exciting and contemporary look. The suites all have magnificent views – out over the village and distant hazy hills.
Throughout the building there are comfortable places to sit and relax in, the yoga on the rooftop at dawn is highly recommended. The chic dining room and the colourful bar both offer superb cuisine based on mouth-watering Indian dishes and recipes from all over the world. Exploring the village of Delwara at the foot of the fort is a highlight, discover 14th century Jain temples, whilst observing the villagers going about their typically agricultural work day.
