Sabi Sands, South Africa
Chitwa Chitwa stands as a jewel of South African hospitality and an emblem of the savanna’s most authentic and refined luxury. Originally a private home, it was transformed into a private game lodge in 1991, and has an eclectic European style that blends well with African chic. Located in the Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve, it overlooks the largest perennial lake in the 63,000 hectare park.
Its six stylish and spacious suites are individually decorated and offer ultimate privacy that is ideal for honeymooners and couples. Each of the suites opens onto a private lake-view deck with its own private plunge pool. All the suites have indoor and outdoor showers.
There is also a family suite – the Charlsy Suite, which consists of two interlinking rooms joined by a comfortable living area. Chitwa Chitwa is one of the few luxury lodges in the Sabi Sand to accept children of all ages. A fabulously spacious common lake view deck with a swimming pool completes this unique unit.
Chitwa Chitwa is also unique in that it welcomes children of all ages. From the age of 6 onwards, upon the guide approval, children are permitted to participate with the adults on safari. For the younger children, dedicated activities can be arranged.
The most thrilling and eagerly-anticipated part of any stay with Chitwa is undoubtedly the safari experience. Chitwa is highly acclaimed for its excellent game viewing and can boast some of the best opportunities to see the Big Five. Their highly qualified guides and Shangaan tarckers provide an unforgetting experience with their profound knowledge of this animal kingdom and its complex habitat.
A typical day in the African bush is often concluded by a sumptuous feast in the ‘boma’, which is the Shangaan word for ‘enclosure’. Dine under the stars by the enchanting glimmer of fire and candle light and experieance an integral part of traditional African culture.
