The spectacular Château Saint-Martin & Spa is in the impossibly picturesque medieval village of Vence, twenty minutes by car from the coastline of the French Riviera, and surrounded by rolling hills and olive groves.
A Relais & Chateaux property, the Château Saint-Martin & Spa has Mediterranean as well as mountain views, with the Alps visible on a clear day.
Vence and neighbouring St. Paul de Vence are famous artistic enclaves, with works from Chagall, Matisse, Picasso and Miro on display in several excellent museums.
The hotel occupies a château that belonged to the Knights Templar in the 12th century, and its thick stone walls and hilltop position still bring to mind a fortress. Yet its modern interiors and supremely luxurious facilities ensure that its current incarnation is welcoming and relaxing above all.
The Chateau Saint-Martin & Spa has 46 rooms and suites, and six private villas (one, two and three bedroom) hidden among the grounds. Classical Rooms overlook the gardens and Suites have balconies or terraces with hillside or sea views.
The hotel’s restaurant, Le Saint-Martin, has two Michelin stars, while La Rosticceria and L’Oliveraie serve more informal menus both inside and out. Wood-panelled Le Rossini bar and tea room is filled with tapestries and period furniture.
Outside, the Chateau Saint-Martin & Spa has a beautiful swimming pool, and riding, walking and cycling trails throughout its private 30-acre grounds.
The hotel’s superb spa is run in conjunction with top brands La Prairie and Bamford, whose signature treatments and products are on offer in four treatment rooms.
For families, the Martin’s Club entertains children throughout the summer months with a range of activities and games.
The Chateau Saint-Martin & Spa is a member of the Oetker Collection, along with Le Bristol Paris. In addition, the famous Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, under an hour away on the southern tip of the Cap d’Antibes, is another sister property, and well worth a visit.
