Bird Island Lodge, Seychelles
This tropical island paradise is situated in the most northerly archipelago of the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean, a 30-minute flight from Mahé. Set on a 170-acre private island with over five kilometres of white sand beaches and an abundance of wildlife, Bird Island Lodge offers a true castaway experience. It will appeal to those looking for a unique and unforgettable retreat. Although there are no specific child care facilities, children are welcome and babysitting can be arranged.
Bird Island is considered one of the world’s top eco-holiday destinations. Simplicity at the lodge is key and the atmosphere is relaxed and informal. Food is served buffet style with a superb menu of fresh fish and organic homegrown produce.
24 simple but comfortable chalets are nestled amidst an old coconut plantation, a short stroll from the beach. Each room offers stunning views of the Indian Ocean and includes a king-size bed, a large shower room, a ceiling fan and a spacious veranda.
Bird Island is a nature-lovers paradise and is home to over 20 species of exotic birds, giant tortoises and other wildlife. You can enjoy guided nature walks around the island, which takes just over an hour to walk round, or get a rare glimpse of endangered sea turtles.
Go for a slow paddle in a kayak in the shallow turquoise waters; snorkel above the house reef; or head out on a boat trip for a chance to spot dolphins, manta rays and often whales in October and November. The waters near the island also offer prime big game fishing.
