Siem Reap, Cambodia
Behind its walled garden compounds lies the former royal guesthouse of King Sihanouk. Like a private home characterised by its gracious elegance, the idyllic Amansara is just minutes away from the rich Khmer culture and the magnificent Angkor ruins.
Exclusivity and luxury is felt in this ‘60s-styled architectural gem of low-slung façades arranged spaciously around the central irregular-shaped pool. The suites ooze a tranquil sense of zen with its open layout, the use of earthy tones, grey flooring, dark timber and ivory walls. Retreat into large tubs or your personal plunge pool in the pool suites after a long day of exploring the history and culture of Siem Reap.
The Dining Room features a walk-in cellar and you may help yourself to the cakes on display – making you feel right at home. The library is also extensively stocked with good reads, travel guides, CDs and boardgames to keep you occupied for a lazy afternoon. Recharge with signature treatments at the Amansara Spa with a serene view of the reflection pool and a 43-metre Angkor-inspired sandstone bas relief, followed by a pre-dinner drink on the Roof Terrace as you watch the sun sink low into the horizon.
Get out and explore temples surrounding Angkor Wat, the fishing village of Tonle Sap or tailor-made off-the-beaten-track places on your custom-fitted remork and personal driver. Complete your Angkorian experience with customised helicopter tours to Preah Vihar near the Thai borders, hidden temples and other scenic places farther afield.
