Lightfoot Travel Director, Lucy Jackson recently whisked away her fiancée to the stunning Amanoi, the ultimate luxury beachside resort in Nha Trang, located in Vietnam’s Nui Chua National Park. Perched cliff-side and with dramatic views of the coastline, this spectacular hotel marks the group’s first foray into Vietnam.

Visibly re-invigorated and wonderfully tanned from her long weekend away, she tells us what makes this property unique. Her love affair with Aman continues…

What were your first impressions as you arrived into the hotel?

The glittering shine upon the horizon from the hundred strong squid boat lamps felt as though we had entered an Aladdin’s cave.  Upon arrival in our Ocean View Pavilion at the newly completed Amanoi, the view was unexpected, to say the least: wide sweeping bays, steep rocky cliffs overlooking blue ocean as far as the eye can see and massive boulders intermingling with the lush vegetation.

Aman truly knows how to pick incredible locations for their properties, and the Amanoi is just proof of this.

Describe the design and architecture of the Amanoi

The wow factor was in the over-riding style of chic architecture that is almost symbiotic with Japanese simplicity, yet with closer inspection is a historic kick-back to Vietnam of old, made new again. Belgium architect, Jean-Michel Gathy, known in the industry as being the designer of Cheval Blanc in the Maldives (amongst other things), has created a serene environment amongst the 29,000 rugged hectares of Nui Chua National Park. From the gentle lighting (all on mood timers throughout the property) to the clean slatted lines running down the grandiose staircase from reception, everything about the scale of this project sings with owner, Zecha’s discreet discerning air.

What is the food like?

Fish is the star of the menu here, which only seems natural due to the hotel’s proximity to a fishing village. Eating outdoors with such splendid views – possibly some of the best throughout the hotel – is definitely a must.

We loved the escape to ‘Hong Zhan’ floating restaurant, where a guide and butler ‘Amanifies’ the whole experience with a banging bottle of your choice, your own linen napkins and cutlery; to maintain certain standards of course!

What can you do at Amanoi?

Relaxation is key at Amanoi. With 5 couple pavilions, 2 hydrotherapy suites and superb massages, it is impossible not to indulge!

That being said, if you are feeling in need of a little heart-pumping activities, head to the beach, where the sleekest of equipment awaits – kayaking, hobie cats and snorkels at the ready! Vinh Hy Bay, renowned as one of Vietnam’s four most beautiful bays, is teeming with ocean life so prepare to get an eyeful!

For those with a longer stay, there are some fabulous hikes into the National Park and an opportunity to explore the fishing village of Vinh Hai which is nearby.

How does Amanoi fit into a more global Vietnam holiday?

This destination is great for guests going on a long Indochina expedition, allowing you to relax on the beach at the end of your holiday. That being said, it’s also a fantastic option as a one stop shop for reviving your soul in their spa – enjoying their wonderful lotions and potions in a massage or in their hydrotherapy suites (free of charge!), immersing yourself in yoga or pilates each morning or merely admiring the stunning never-ending horizon of the ocean from the Cliff Pool.

The Amanoi is definitely one to visit now, before the secret is out. Perfect for a 4 night retreat or part of a family holiday with private villas complete with your own chef and butler for the ultimate in privacy.
