Zimbabwe’s Wildlife and Falls

Utter the word Zimbabwe, and the impressive Victoria Falls instantly come to mind! That being said, the country offers much more than the thundering falls and is also home to superb safari options: spotting The Big Five is no arduous task.

Our 12 day itinerary takes you to Mana Pools, Matusadona National Park and Hwange National Park for some great wildlife viewing before finishing off with the country’s highlight, the Victoria Falls.

Day 1: Arrival

Upon arrival into Harare International Airport, you will be met by a representative who will assist you in catching your schedules light aircraft transfer to your camp.

Ruchomechi Camp lies on the banks of the Zambezi and offers superb views of Africa’s Great Rift Valley. There are ten spacious en-suite tented units which overlook the Zambezi River and boasts ‘baths-with-a-view’.

Day 2: Exploring Mana Pools National Park – bird safari

Birdlife at Mana Pools National Park is superb, and today you will have the opportunity to witness this for yourself as you go on a birding safari. Mana Pools is great for both mopane woodland and riverine species with many local specials like Collared Palm-Thrush, Racket-tailed Roller, Purple-banded Sunbird and Black-throated Wattle-Eyes.

Day 3: Exploring Mana Pools National Park – game walk

Another day exploring the fabulous Mana Pools National Park, this time on a game walk. This walk is a great opportunity to feel the pulse of Africa at the soles of your feet and experience the bush at close quarters.

Day 4: From Mana Pools to Matusadona National Park

In the morning, you will be transferred to the camp’s airstrip for your scheduled light aircraft transfer to Matusadona National Park. Upon arrival, you will be met by a camp representative and driven to your accommodation.

Changa Safari Camp is located on the shores of Lake Kariba and offers the unique experience of combined Game & Fishing safaris.

Day 5: Fishing excursion in Matusadona National Park

Go catch your lunch or dinner! Fishing in Matusadona is quite an experience, and if you are up for is, go head on with Kariba’s famous tigerfish, with the help of a fishing guide

Day 6: Game walk at Matusadona National Park

As is Mana Pools, birdlife is prolific in Matusadona National Park. However, the main highlights are the huge elephant populations that you will come across as well as the region being one of the last remaining sanctuaries of the endangered Black Rhino.

Day 7: Matusadona to Hwange National Park

Catch your scheduled light aircraft transfer which will take you to your next destination, Hwange National Park. You will then be transferred to your next accommodation.

Davison’s Camp lies deep in Hwange National Park, in the area that boasts one of the best game viewing options in the park. With only 8 tents, all overlooking a watering hole and open plain, you are sure to experience great game from the moment you arrive.

Day 8: Morning game drive

Wake up before the sun rises, enjoy breakfast and head straight on to your morning game drive; the bush is already wide awake!

Once your game drive offer, you have some free time to relax or visit a village for an authentic experience, during which time you will meet the headman or headwomen!

Day 9: Night game drive

Today, you will have the chance to sleep in and relax and spend the day at leisure.

Once the sun begins to set, watch as the day comes to a close and dusk falls, before heading off on a night game drive and observing the nocturnal animals start to emerge.

Day 10: Onwards to Victoria Falls

You will depart Hwange National Park and catch your scheduled light aircraft transfer which will take you to the famed Victoria Falls. Your accommodation for the next 2 nights is The Victoria Falls, a gorgeous hotel located on a World Heritage site overlooking the impressive falls.

Day 11: Excursions at Victoria Falls

In the morning, head over to Victoria Falls, known as the Mosi-oa-Tunya (the smoke that thunders) and marvel at this spectacular natural wonder. If you are feeling up to it, take a dip in the Devil’s Pool!

In the afternoon, embark on the Ra-Ikane Sunset Cruise. Prepare yourself for outstanding beauty and a wide range of game and bird life: elephants, hippo, crocodiles are a common sight.

Day 12: Departure

Your Zimbabwe adventure comes to an end today, and you will be transferred to the airport to catch your return flight home.
