Wildlife In Borneo

Be woken up by the calls of the gibbons and birds, watch fireflies light up, and watch animals find their spot for the night as the sun goes down. These are just some of my standout moments from this itinerary where you can get close to animals in the wild and help save animals from extinction.

Day 1

Day 1
Arrival

Upon arrival you’ll be escorted to Sepilok Orangutan Centre - the world’s largest orangutan rehabilitation centre at Sepilok.

After lunch you’ll visit the centre to witness the orangutans being fed by the rangers. Cameras at the ready!

Afterwards, visit the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, where 36 bears are currently housed after being rescued from poachers.

You’ll then be driven to Lower Kinabatangan River and take a short boat transfer to Sukau Rainforest Lodge. Enjoy a river cruise as you go in search of endemic proboscis monkeys, wild Orangutan, leaf monkeys, gibbons, macaques, and the Borneo Pgymy Elephant.

Day 2
Kinabatangan River Cruise

Enjoy a morning river cruise up the Kinabatangan River or jungle trek to Ox-Bow Lake for bird watching.

In the late afternoon, take another river cruise to see wildlife along the Sukau Kinabatangan River Bank.

Day 3

Day 3
Kinabatangan River – Lahad Datu – Danum Valley

This morning you will take a long drive towards Danum Valley to your rainforest lodge experience.

In the late afternoon, enjoy a walk along the trails and the 130-metre-high, 300-metre-long canopy walk, high up in the 130 million year-old rainforest.

After dark, head on a night spotlighting tour accompanied by your guide looking for samba deer, civet cats and leopards.

Day 4

Day 4
Trek To ‘Coffin Cliff’ & ‘View Point’

As day breaks you’ll travel to a 200 year-old Kadazandusun burial site known as “Coffin Cliff”, along the 2.6km View Point Trail and with spectacular views over a million-year-old jungle. Drop into waterfalls for a refreshing dip on your return.

Later, head into the jungle with your guide to witness the insects that come out in the evening hours.

Optional Excursions

- Rise early to spot some of the 266 bird species recorded here.

- Rise early to watch the breathtaking sunrise from the Observation Tower (45mins away from the lodge – weather permitting only)

Jungle Trekking

Spend your day jungle trekking in search of wildlife. Night Drives in search of nocturnal animals are also available.

Day 6

Day 6
Lahad Datu - Kota Kinabalu

You’ll be met at the airport and escorted to your accommodation.

The next few days will be spent at your leisure enjoying the hotel and your surroundings. Your Travel Designer can advise on activities prior to travel, and your guide will be available to you. Activities can include jungle walks, bird watching, cookery classes, bicycle tours, horse riding, and more.

Kota Kinabalu

You have today to explore Kota Kinabalu and what it has to offer.

Your Travel Designer can advise on activities prior to travel, and your guide will be available to you.

Departure

You’ll be escorted to the airport for your onward journey.
