Weeklong Wilderness Break

A weeklong wilderness break is sometimes all that you need to disconnect and come back feeling completely refreshed. Immerse yourself in Australia’s Northern Territory and Kimberley wilderness and discover the regions’ endemic wildlife and superb natural environment.

Day 1: Arrival into Darwin

Upon arrival into Darwin Airport, you will be met by a representative and transferred to your accommodation, which is located 15 minutes away by car.

Stay: Bamurru Plains

Day 2 - 3: Exploring the bush at Bamurru Plains

During the next two days you are free to experience the Northern Australian bush at leisure. With its extraordinary setting on the edge of Kakadu National Park, Bamurru Plains offers great safari-style bush. The region is home to prolific bird and wildlife and neighbouring Kakadu and Arnhem Land are the heartland of the country’s indigenous culture.

Whilst in Bamurru Plains, be sure to go on an airboat tour and discover the floodplain wetlands of the Mary River catchment. There, bird watching is superb, with the Mary River catchment being home to 236 species of bird. Fishing is also a highlight in the region, and the property’s location make it ideal place to hook fish! For a great on-land activity, hop aboard a 4WD and go on a safari.

Stay: Bamurru Plains

Day 4: From Bamurru Plains to El Questro

Depart Bamurru Plains in the morning to your next destination in Western Australia. From Darwin Airport, it’s an hour-long flight to Kununurra Airport followed by a 2 hour drive to El Questro Homestead.

Stay: El Questro Homestead

Day 5 - 6: Explore rugged Western Australia

The following days are at leisure for you to explore the region. Located within Wilderness Park, the intimate El Questro Homestead is perched atop a cliff with views over the Chamberlain River.

We recommend going on a horse trek, which is a great way to observe the abundant Kimberley wildlife (which includes fruits bats, wallabies, crocodiles) and admire the countryside. For a bit of relaxation, spend an afternoon at the Zebedee Thermal Springs; perfect for rejuvenation. El Questro can also arrange a private Chamberlain Cruise, to the homestead private “dinghy”. And of course, there are numerous hiking trails with countless surprises that await.

Stay: El Questro Homestead

Day 7: Departure

In the morning, you will return back to Darwin Airport to catch your return flight home.
