Ultimate Morocco

When you think of Morocco, you undoubtedly think of the bustling souks of Marrakech with their snake-charmers and tempting foods. However, the country’s rich landscape is incomparable – think mountains, beaches and endless rolling sand dunes. Here we offer the chance to get a taste of all these things in one go.

You’ll get to stay at top luxury accommodation along the way, be it a tented ‘glamping’ experience in the desert or a boutique riad in a city centre. Taste some of Morocco’s finest foods with a healthy addition of spices and herbs from the souks and relax in spas along the way.

Day 1: Arrive in Marrakech

Arrive in Marrakech’s International Airport where you will be met by a guide. Transfer to your first accommodation which will be at La Sultana Marrakech where you will stay for three nights.

This is a 5* deluxe luxury hotel which is conveniently located within the walled medina of the old city. Spread across five riads, the hotel has a superb restaurant, luxuriously pampering spa and top-notch accommodation and service: the perfect place to start your tour.

Stay: La Sultana Marrakech

Day 2: Visit Marrakech

Spend the next day familiarizing yourselves with this ever-buzzing city. Wander through its maze-like alleyways and discover unfamiliar nooks and crannies. Make sure to circle the Koutoubia Mosque with its imposing golden globes and discover some Moorish history at the Koubba El-Badiyin. This is the only surviving building from the founders of Marrakech dating back to the 1100’s. Stop by the ancient Saadian Tombs where many wealthy sultans were buried in great splendor.

Stay: La Sultana Marrakech

Day 3 - 4: Half Day City Tour & Shopping

During these few days, you will get a half-day tour of the city from an experienced guide. Make sure you get taken round the souks as your guide will be able to steer you in a rough direction preventing you from getting lost down the colourful, never-ending alleys (although this is a fun activity in itself!). Every section has its own specialty – the dyer’s area, the carpenter’s corner, spices, and most importantly bags and baskets which you will need to carry all your purchases in.

Wind up in the authentic Djema El Fna, part market, part travelling fair. Here you will find a spectacular array of entertainers, be they jugglers, fortune tellers or snake charmers. Enjoy some local food and freshly squeezed orange juice, find a rooftop terrace overlooking the square and sit back, relax and soak up the atmosphere.

Before you leave, rejuvenate at your hotel hammam, making the most of the luxury treatments they have on offer.

Stay: La Sultana Marrakech

Day 5: From Marrakech to Essaouira

After breakfast you will be driven three hours to your next destination, Essaouira. Here you will stay two nights at L’Heure Bleue Palais in the centre of this quiet seaside town. L’Heure Bleue has stunning interiors and extravagant furnishings, offering impressive rooftop views across the Medina and ocean. Sample  their wide range of culinary delights, from  Moroccan feasts to seafood extravaganzas  – so be sure to try out their restaurant one night.

Stay: L'Heure Bleue Palais

Day 6 - 7: Explore Essaouira

Spend time drifting through Essaouira’s relaxed, boho streets; pop into boutiques, art galleries and local coffee shops. With little cobbled streets lined with traditional jewelers and artisan stores it is easy to just drift along stocking up on presents for home!

Relax on the beach, cycle through the city with a guide or for the more adventurous, try your hand at quad biking, four-wheel driving or kite-surfing. Don’t forget to explore the fishing harbor and the crumbling Essaouira citadel in all its beauty.

Stay: L'Heure Bleue Palais

Day 8: From Essaouira to the Atlas Moutains

After breakfast, you will be driven around three hours to the Atlas Mountains and to your luxury accommodation Kasbah du Toubkal, where you will spend the next two nights. Standing on a remote hilltop high above sea level surrounded by the Atlas Mountains, this is a peaceful, luxury boutique-style hotel. With breathtaking views from all angles, this stunning hotel is run purely by local staff.

Stay: Kasbah du Toubkal

Day 9: Day at leisure in the Atlas Mountains

Spend today making the most of the activities on offer: if you wish to organize challenging mountainous hikes or simply relax in the Kasbah’s own hammam steam bath, the staff are always on hand to help. Be sure to appreciate the stunning views over the surrounding mountainside while you are there.

Stay: Kasbah du Toubkal

Day 10: From the Atlas Mountains to Skoura

After breakfast you will be driven two hours to Skoura where you will spend one night in a comfortable accommodation in Skoura. Here, palm plantations are criss-crossed by paths that run by crumbling pisé walls up to kasbahs in equally ruinous condition. The whole effect of this is quite beautiful and pervades through the town. Spend the day soaking in this stunning place before heading to the Erg Chebbi tomorrow.

Day 11: From Skoura to Erg Chebbi

Transfer after breakfast to your next stop. You will stay in a  magical camped desert escape which seems to come directly out of ‘Arabian Nights’ with a different setting at every turn. Explore the area on foot, camel or donkey and make sure you stargaze from your tent at night.

Day 12: From Erg Chebbi to Fez

After breakfast, transfer to Fez where you will spend three nights at the Riad Fes. Situated in the heart of Fez, this hotel features a blend of Hispanic-Moorish architecture with bold and colourful interiors. With panoramic views over the Rif Mountains and the Medina below, the Riad Fes is the ultimate luxury city hideaway. Be sure to sample their outstanding fine dining restaurants, one of the few in the city, before your busy day of sightseeing tomorrow.

Stay: Riad Fes

Day 13 - 14: Fez Half Day Tour

A guided tour of Fez is an absolute must as there is a real danger of getting lost in the medina if not orientated. A guided tour will take you through the maze-like souks including a visit to the Zaouia (sanctuary) of Moulay Idriss II. Founder of Fez, he rapidly achieved cult-status after his death. Another Islamic monument which can be seen but not entered is the Kairaouiyne Mosque. It is such an integral part of the city that its shape cannot be distinguished, so many buildings have been built onto its walls. If you have time, pay a visit to the Moulay Yacoub thermal baths and the next day go horse riding around the area.

Stay: Riad Fes

Day 15: From Fez to Rabat

Today, transfer to Rabat via the imperial city of Meknes and the impressive Roman ruins of Voloublis. Both sites have been declared UNESCO World Heritage sites and are well worth the diversion.

Arrive in Rabat and spend one night at Villa Mandarine. Set in over three acres of enchanting gardens, the Villa Mandarine is the perfect place to stay on your final night of your holiday. The emphasis is on warm hospitality and comfort with each room having been personally designed by the owner. It has an excellent Moroccan themed restaurant, a heated pool, fitness suite and many activities on offer.

Wander around Rabat which, still untouched by mass tourism, is an easygoing and lively city. The beaches are only a few minutes away, or if you’re not souk’ed out, explore the Medina and the Kasbah of the Oudayas.

Stay: Villa Mandarine Hotel Rabat
