Siem Reap in a Weekend

Siem Reap is the vibrant base for exploring the fabled temples of Angkor, the ancient capital of the Khmer empire and the largest religious monument in the world. With fascinating decorative flourishes, intricate bas-reliefs and carvings depicting history and mythology, its mightiness and magnificence is incomparable and the reason why it makes everyone’s bucket list.

Day 1: Arrive in Siem Reap

Upon your arrival in Siem Reap you’ll be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel.

In the afternoon you’ll set out to explore Angkor Wat. Built during the reign of King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century, construction is thought to have taken around thirty years of intensive labour.

After a tour of the temple you’ll be escorted to the Angkor Gondola paddle boat at the moat of Angkor Thom to witness the sunset while sailing along the ancient moat.

In the evening you’ll be returned to your hotel.

Stay: Phum Baitang

Day 2: Siem Reap

After breakfast you’ll embark on a private photo consultation and excursion around Angkor Wat with American fine art photographer and photojournalist John McDermott.

With its incredible colours, sepia-toned dawns and evening light, fascinating architecture and mystical Angkorian complex, this is a photographer’s dream.

John will personally tailor your excursion to suit your needs, taking you to specific temples or surrounding villages to create strong images.

After the tour you’ll be returned to your hotel to view your images, and to spend the rest of the day at your leisure.

Stay: Phum Baitang

Day 3: Siem Reap

This morning you’ll head out to the beautiful Cambodian countryside and the quiet temple, Beng Mealea. Undiscovered for centuries, Beng Mealea remains unrestored and is one of the few temples you can climb through.

You’ll have lunch at a local house before setting off on a boat trip on the Tonlé Sap Lake, the largest lake in south-east Asia.

You’ll visit the village of Kampong Kleang and join a boat ride through the village, seeing where the fisherman live in stilted houses among the mangrove forests and waterways.

Afterwards, you’ll be driven back to your accommodation.

Stay: Phum Baitang

Day 4: Siem Reap - Home

Today you’ll spend the afternoon exploring Siem Reap’s colourful markets.
On the way you’ll stop by Artisans d’Angkor – a social business enterprise supporting Cambodian arts and crafts and helping young local people to find work. Here, you’ll discover how wood and stone carvings, lacquering, gilding, and silk paintings are created.

The rest of the day will be spent at your leisure until you’re transferred to the airport for your departing flight.
