The Best of New South Wales

New South Wales ticks all of the boxes for a varied and adventurous holiday.

With opulent properties poised in some of the best sites in the country, there is no better way to revel in the dizzying array of natural beauty that Australia has to offer.

This week-long journey will start off by bringing you around some of Sydney’s hottest spots before taking a scenic drive to the majestic Blue Mountains where you will spend your days hiking and horseback riding through the countryside. Cap your journey at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lord Howe Island where you can do everything from surfing on its eastern-facing beaches to scuba diving in the crystal clear waters of its lagoon.

Day 1: Arrive into Sydney

Flying with our preferred airline partner Qantas, arrive into Sydney, Australia’s iconic harbour-side city, and be met for a private transfer to your hotel.

Stay: Park Hyatt Sydney

Day 2: Sydney

Meet your guide in the morning for a full day of touring around this buzzing metropolis.

Begin with the historic Rocks area and the Sydney Opera House, move on to Macquarie Street for an insight to Sydney’s colonial days, en route to the Royal Botanic Gardens – the perfect spot for a photo with views over the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Relax and enjoy a two course luncheon at Ravesi’s, the ‘in’ spot for young Sydney-siders overlooking the surf at Bondi Beach.  After lunch, a 2 hour private cruise with your skipper will show you the best of Sydney from our beautiful Harbour that will include afternoon refreshments.

Stay: Park Hyatt Sydney

Day 3: Sydney to Blue Mountains – Wolgan Valley

Today pick up your car hire and drive 4 hours to the Blue Mountains, checking into Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa. Carefully sited between two National Parks and spread out at the foot of towering cliffs, Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa is set within its own private conservation and wildlife reserve, perfect for bush walks and the great outdoors.

Stay: One and Only Wolgan Valley

Day 4 - 5: Blue Mountains – Wolgan Valley

Spend your days exploring this wonderful region with your the resort’s Field Guides – either by hiking on nature trails, exploring the countryside on horseback, touring by four-wheel drive, mountain biking through forests, or stargazing in the dead of night.

Stay: One and Only Wolgan Valley

Day 6: Blue Mountains to Lord Howe Island – Cape Lodge

Today, drive 4 hours back to Sydney airport in time for your domestic flight to Lord Howe Island, in the Tasman Sea 700km northeast of Sydney.

This ‘treasure island’ of extraordinary contrasts, with rugged volcanic peaks, lush forests, rolling surf and serene lagoons, is also encircled by the world’s southern-most coral reef and was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1982. Long recognised for its pristine natural heritage, around 75% of the island is permanently preserved as Marine Park and subtropical rainforest. Lord Howe Island and its surrounding islets are the eroded remnants of a large shield volcano that erupted from the ocean floor some 7 million years ago.

Stay: Cape Lodge

Day 7-8: Lord Howe Island – Capella Lodge

Explore the wonders of this tiny island, born from a volcanic eruption some seven million years ago. Here are some ideas:

Climb Malabar Hill and take the ridge walk to Kim’s Lookout – This 3-hour return walk offers spectacular views along the spine of the Island’s mountain ridge as well as magnificent views over The Lagoon. At Malabar Hill (209 metres) the cliffs plunge dramatically into the ocean below and the crannies in the cliff shelter one of the world’s largest colonies of red-tailed  tropical birds. If you continue to Kim’s Lookout (a more challenging climb that extends your trek to a 5-hour return) you’ll be rewarded with superb views of Mount Gower and the Island’s jewel-coloured reef.

Surf at Blinky Beach – One of Lord Howe’s eastern-facing beaches, Blinky’s has some of the best breaks on the island and has Australia’s least crowded waves.

Snorkel, scuba dive, kayak or join a glass-bottom boat tour of the lagoon. The crystal-clear waters of Lord Howe are home to more than 500 species of fish and 90 species of coral.

Stay: Capella Lodge

Day 9: Lord Howe Island – Sydney Airport

Today you will be transferred to the airport in time for your domestic and connecting international departure flight.
