Sweden has a lot to offer in terms of dramatic landscapes & cosy villages. The northern part of the country is home to the famed Lapland where you can encounter the Sami people, admire snow filled scenery of incredible beauty and be awe-struck by Mother Nature’s fascinating Northern Lights, whilst Central Sweden is home to the bustling city of Stockholm. During this 10 day itinerary, you will explore these two intriguing sides of Sweden.

Day 1: Arrival

Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel, Hotel Lydmar, a cosy contemporary accommodation, centrally located.

You will have the remainder of the day at leisure to explore the surroundings or just relax.

Day 2: Exploring Stockholm

Known as a city that is rich in history, Stockholm has so many interesting places to visit. You will start off your day with a walking excursion of Gamla Stan, the Old Town and have time at leisure in the afternoon to explore the city’s main landmarks like the City Hall and museums or shop for contemporary Swedish art or sample a smorgasbord.

Day 3: Time at leisure in Stockholm

Today, make the most of what the Swedish capital has to offer at your own pace. We recommend the following:

  • See The Royal Palace, which is the official residence of the King of Sweden since the 18th century and featuring baroque architecture.
  • Go to The Vasa Museum. Featuring the incredible Vasa battleship, this museum was intended to be the pride of the Swedish Imperial fleet, yet sank on its maiden voyage in 1628. This is the most visited museum in Sweden.
  • Visit Djurgården, a tranquil oasis in the heart of the city. It is also home to several of Stockholm’s top museums and attractions such as Abba the Museum and the open-air museum Skansen.
  • Check Fotografiska, a Stockholm’s museum of contemporary photography and hosts an eclectic mix of exhibitions throughout the year.
  • Explore the posh district of Östermalm, featuring international labels and high-class Scandinavian designers.

Day 4: From Stockholm to Abisko

Today you will fly from Stockholm to Kiruna and then be transferred to Abisko, where you will stay at Björkliden Kåppas Cabins.

After some down time in the hotel, you will make your way to the Abisko National Park for an evening of chasing Northern Lights. During this excursion, you will be accompanied by a professional photographer, who will provide you with high quality camera and lens and impart tricks of the trade enabling you to photograph the magical aurora borealis.

During this aurora photo excursion, you will also get the chance to visit Abisko’s world famous Sami Camp, the frozen surface of Lake Torneträsk or the peaceful Abisko River Delta.

Day 5: Day trip to Narvik

Today you will be transferred to Narvik, from where you will be able to experience the backcountry and feel adrenaline pumping through your veins as you explore the region by snowmobile.

Day 6: Dog sledding and Abisko Sky Station

Start off the day with a unique experience: dog sledding. Relax on a big wooden sled and enjoy the spectacular scenery whilst your guide takes you through the Abisko mountain forest.

In the evening, you will be transferres to Abisko Sky Station that is located in the middle of the auroral zone. Abisko Sky Station is considered to be the best place on earth to see the Aurora Borealis. With its fresh, clear air and its practically permanent cloud-free sky, the prerequisites in Abisko are optimal. Prepare yourself for a memorable night-time experience.

The night visit starts with a beautiful chair-lift ride up to the Aurora Sky Station, where you will enjoy dinner at the cafe. Enjoy the silent Abisko National Park as your eyes gradually gets used to the completely dark skies and soon you will see more stars than ever before. With a little luck, you will see one of the nature’s most spectacular displays – the Northern Lights.

Day 7: Experience ICE HOTEL

Today you will be transferred to your next hotel, ICEHOTEL. Located just 125 miles from the Arctic Circle in a small village where the canine residents outnumber the human ones, Sweden’s ICEHOTEL is the grande dame of frozen accommodations. Creating the world’s largest ice hotel is a year-round endeavor that begins in the spring, when 4,000 tons of water are harvested from the Torne River, and continues through the winter months.

You will have the remainder of the day at leisure to explore the surroundings or just relax.

Day 8: Onwards to Boden

Today you will continue to your next destination, Boden, by car. En route, you can visit a local Sami reindeer herder, see the reinders and go for a sleigh ride.

Upon arrival in Boden, your driver will take you to your hotel, Treehotel. Located in Harads, Treehotel offers a unique hotel experience, allowing guests to reside amongst the tree-tops, within unique and comporary designed tree houses. The treerooms are suspended 4-6 meters above ground and offer a fantastic view of the Lule River valley, forest and river.

Day 9: At leisure

You have the day at leisure to relax or join one of the guided tours at the TreeHotel where you will learn the whole story of how the surreal hotel became a reality. You can also follow the work through pictures and stories. The tour finishes with a leisurely stroll up to the area for a viewing of the treerooms and sauna.

In the evening, enjoy a meal in nature, cooked over an open fire. A local guide will prepare the meal for you and share more about local plants and animals.

Day 10: Transfer to Lulea and departure

For your last day of your Swedish adventure, you will make your way to Lulea, which you will have time to explore before catching your flight back to Stockholm and return flight home.
