This itinerary is perfect for the traveller who loves soaking up every bit of his or her environment. Southern Australia’s laid back indulgence will definitely have you digging your heels in to keep from leaving!

First explore the award-winning vineyards of the Barossa Valley, where you will get to blend your own wine and have Appellation’s chef fashion a menu for dinner specially around the wine you have created that same day. You will then drive north to Arkaba Station where the remote outback will have you feeling like the only person in the world, surrounded by lush nature and indigenous bush animals. Finally, head on to Kangaroo Island, home to more stunning coastal scenery – fall asleep to the crashing of the surf in the distance and watch the sun rise over the distant horizon.

Day 1: Adelaide Airport to Adelaide – Sebel Playford Adelaide

Arrive into Adelaide and be met for a private transfer to your hotel. Located minutes from major tourist attractions, city centre shopping and the restaurant precinct, you will be in the perfect location to explore the city on your own, at a leisurely pace.

Day 2: Adelaide to Barossa Valley – The Louise

In the morning you will be met by a local guide and taken on a sensory and interactive Gourmet walking tour (1.5 hours) through the Adelaide Central Market. Chat with stallholders, ask questions of grass root suppliers, taste many foods and experience the exciting buzz of the market, ending off with a well-earned, beautifully made coffee.  Our advice: “Wear walking shoes and come with an empty stomach!”

Pick up your rental car and drive 90 minutes to the gorgeous Barossa Valley in time for lunch at Appellation, The Louise. The Barossa Valley is one of Australia’s best known wine regions and home to some of the oldest Shiraz vines in the world. Central to the wineries, vineyards and touring, Appellation offers a causal fine dining experience in elegant surrounds.

Day 3: Barossa Valley – The Louise

Today explore the amazing food and wine culture of the region and discover sweeping views of a gnarled landscape. Encounter charming producers of legendary delights and taste rich regional wines. Your private guide will meet you this morning for a full day private touring that can be tailored to suit your interests.

Day 4: Barossa Valley to The Elder Ranges – Arkaba Station

Self-drive to The Flinders Ranges where over 300 species of bird and unique mammal species abound and a geological history that extends back to more than a billion years.

These spectacular panoramas are best enjoyed, with a chilled glass of wine in hand, as the sun sets over the craggy sandstone bluffs at Arkaba Station, a five bedroom 1850’s homestead, offering a select few guests to share in Station life while overlooking the ranges.  A swimming pool and relaxing areas overlook the Arkaba Creek as well.

Day 5: The Elder Ranges - Arkaba Station

During your stay learn about the activities of an outback station and visit the old woolshed, the focus of the station’s annual shearing since 1856. On bush walks, picnics and 4WD safaris explore the gorges and valleys of the Flinders Ranges and keep an eye out for wildlife – Red Kangaroos, Emus, Euros, and Yellow-footed Rock Wallabies.  At the end of the day enjoy a sundowner drink along with the sun’s last rays reflecting on the western ramparts of Wilpena Pound.

Day 6: The Elder Ranges to Kangaroo Island – Southern Ocean Lodge

Today drive to Adelaide Airport and drop off your in car in time to catch your domestic flight to Kingscote Airport, on Kangaroo Island. Upon arrival you will be transferred to Southern Ocean Lodge, which is located at Hanson bay on the Island’s south west coast, adjoining the Flinders Chase and Cape Bouguer as well as Kelly Hill National Parks. Set back from a cliff above the pounding surf, this luxury lodge showcases a full coastal panorama and is within easy reach of the Island’s major attractions.

Day 7-8: Kangaroo Island – Southern Ocean Lodge

When you arrive at Southern Ocean Lodge your guides will have mapped out the activities that will be included during in your visit, which might include the following.

An afternoon visit to Seal Bay – home to Australia’s third largest colony of Australia Sea-Lions

A half day experience of Kangaroo Island’s wildlife, maritime heritage and stunning coastal landscapes – Cape du Couedic lighthouse, Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch are just some of the trip highlights.

Beach fishing and having the chef cook your catch.

Cooking lessons focusing on island produce and fresh seafood.

Exploring Kelly Hill Caves accompanied by a National Park Guide to discover the amazing sinkholes and caverns of a complex that has evolved over thousands of years.

Drive through the property along fire trails to a clearing in the bush where local wildlife including kangaroos and wallabies congregate to graze. Sit quietly on the deck, sip on champagne and nibble on a canapé whilst the sun goes down on another magical day.

Coastal Clifftop Trek – a scenic walk atop the limestone cliffs of Hanson Bay. This easy walk affords a bird’seye view of the thundering waves crashing along the coastline as your guides explains the local flora, fauna andcoastline ecosystems.

Day 9: Kangaroo Island – Kingscote Airport

You have the day at leisure until it is time for your transfer to Kingscote Airport for your departure domestic and international flights.
