Indulge in a relaxing adventure on our 12-day itinerary to Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, Salvador and Trancoso. Explore natural and architectural gems that have significantly contributed to Brazil’s rich historical scene and head to hip Trancoso on the beautiful Bahian coastline.
Day 1 - 3 Rio de Janeiro
Welcome to Rio de Janeiro. Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be met and privately transferred to your hotel, where you will be spending your first three nights at the classic luxury Belmond Copacabana Palace. You will only be a heartbeat away from soaking in the sun at the famous Copacabana beach.
Take a full day private tour around Corcovado and Sugarloaf mountains. The magnificent Statue of Christ the Redeemer stands proudly atop the scenic Corcovado Mountain. Located in Tijuca National Park, you have to meet capuchin moneys and toucans in the thriving Atlantic rainforest. Take a cable car up to the peak of Sugar Loaf and admire a bird’s eye view of Rio, known as Cidade Maravilhosa (Marvelous City).
Spend your day at leisure relaxing on one of Rio’s beaches. Rio’s beaches have long captivated visitors from all over the world. You may notice a flurry of activity on the sand – children showing off their football skills and tourists queueing for caipirinha cocktails. The golden beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema have been Rio’s backyard for cariocas (Rio’s residents) – perfect for fun in the sun and sand. Sail through Guanabara Bay, or rock climbing against the backdrop of Rio’s mountainous landscape or perhaps explore the impressive Botanical Gardens.
Day 4 - 5 Brasilia
Fly north to Brasilia, the capital of Brazil. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city is Brazil’s futuristic capital known for its artistic urban planning. You will be taken on a full day tour around major highlights including the Brazilian Congress, the Palácio Itamaraty and the Supreme Federal Court. Paramount to Brazil’s political scene, these government buildings are one of the city’s most striking landmarks, thanks to Oscar Niemeyer. You may also enjoy the Cathedral of Brasilia, a unique Roman Catholic Church, another of Niemeyer’s masterpieces.
Visit Torre de TV, the fourth tallest structure in Brazil. Do not miss out on the Feira da Torr, a market place located at the foot of the tower, where you can try typical Brazilian food and buy local art pieces.
Check into the Brasilia Royal Tulip Brasilia Alvorada where you will spend two nights. Just like the rest of the city, the hotel is an architectural beauty. A modern horseshoe-shaped building overlooking the beautiful Lago do Paranoá, it is right next to Palácio do Planalto.
Stay: Brasilia Royal Tulip Brasilia Alvorada
Day 6 -7 Salvador
Next, you will travel up to Salvador. A major Brazilian port, this is where Indian culture, African drumbeats and classic Portuguese architecture have fused to create this colourful city. You will embark on a half-day walking tour around the historic Pelourinho district. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its dark past almost seems to be hidden by the vivid hues of pink, yellow and blue that paint the buildings in the brighter present. A trip to the Afro-Brazilian Museum will give you great insight into Brazil’s African roots. The São Francisco church is one of the most stunning in the city, with its interior coated with gold leaves, it is indeed telling of the significance of religion in Salvador.
You will spend two nights at Hotel Villa Bahia, a pousada located in the heart of the Pelourinho. Rooms in the two elegant mansions overlook either the delightful São Francisco church or the villa’s lush courtyards. High ceilings, wide open window and wooden floorboards accentuate the colonial charm of the hotel.
Stay: Villa Bahia Pousada
Day 8 - 11 Trancoso
Fly south to Porto Seguro and travel on to pretty Trancoso, a small 16th-century town on the Bahia coast. Declared a UNESCO protected site, the main square or quadrado is bordered by small multi-coloured houses and the tiny white-washed church overlooking the Atlantic.
Once a tiny fishing village it now comes with a deserved reputation for being a chic and trendy destination. Thanks to some fantastic small hotels and great restaurants it is also known for its pristine white beaches with natural swimming pools formed by reefs at low tide. A trip to Trancoso will not be perfect without unwinding at the beach on your days of leisure.
Relax at Uxua Casa Hotel and Spa for the next four nights. A beautifully chic property crafted with local techniques and reclaimed materials, it is nestled just off the local community – you will feel right at home in Trancoso.
