Day 1: Arrive in Luang Prabang

Welcome to the charming capital of Laos! Upon arrival you’ll be greeted by your guide and transferred to your hotel.

The remainder of the day will be spent at your leisure.

Day 2: Luang Prabang

You’ll kick off your Luang Prabang cycling excursion on the flat streets of the city centre, cycling toward the National Museum. Once the Royal Palace, the building now houses an impressive collection of historical relics.

You’ll continue exploring the narrow peninsula, passing residential houses, small businesses and endless Buddhist temples. Witness the daily lives of the locals, see how religion forms such a part of the culture, and soak up the atmosphere of a land where time seems to have stood still.

After lunch you’ll pedal out of Luang Prabang to Phosy Market where you can wander through the aisles of locally-grown produce, exotic ingredients and freshly-prepared snacks. Afterwards, you’ll ride to Ock Pop Tock, a not-for-profit organisation preserving traditional Lao weaving techniques.

You’ll return along a riverside path.

Day 3: Luang Prabang

In the morning you’ll be transferred to the farming village of Ban Xieng Lom to commence the day’s trek.

You’ll walk into the rugged jungle, passing through the Khmu village of Ban Theung where you’ll learn about the lives and beliefs of the Khmu people. You’ll continue to Ban Lao Sung, a Hmong village, where lunch will be served in a local home. Although not far apart geographically, the Hmong have very different customs form the Khmu, and this visit provides fascinating insights to both cultures.

In the afternoon, the route loops back through lush vegetation and more villages, offering the chance to chat with friendly farmers and to admire the stunning views.

You’ll be driven back to Luang Prabang, stopping by the Traditional Arts & Ethnology Centre on the way.

Day 4: Luang Prabang - Oudomxai - Muang La

In the morning you’ll be taken to the province of Oudomxay, a northern and mountainous region of Laos. The journey takes 5-6 hours and you’ll pass through villages and valleys. There’ll be a stop for lunch.

You’ll arrive at your hotel in the afternoon. After check-in you’ll be driven to nearby Lao Loum village for a gentle walk to Phongsavan. The path takes you past mountain scenery and local farms to the hidden monastery of Wat Hoytinphabath, which houses a 35m long reclining Buddha.

Stay: Muang La Resort

Day 5: Muang La

After breakfast, you’ll be driven to the starting point of your trek.

The narrow trail takes you along a mountain stream and through rice fields to the Lao Loum village of Ban Phongsavan, where it will be time for well-deserved picnic.

After lunch, you’ll continue through the heart of the countryside, learning about local life as you go, before descending into the Yang village of Long Ya.

You’ll be returned to your hotel in the late afternoon.

Stay: Muang La Resort

Day 6: Muang La - Muang Khua - Nongkhiaw

After breakfast, you’ll be driven to Muang Khua to board your private long tail boat for a cruise along the Nam Ou river. A picnic lunch will be served along the way.

In the late afternoon you’ll reach Nong Khiaw, famed for its dramatic limestone mountains. Here, you’ll check into your accommodation and enjoy time at your leisure.

Stay: Nongkhiaw River Side

Day 7: Nongkhiaw – Pak Ou – Luang Prabang

After breakfast, you’ll be escorted to the mysterious Pak Ou Caves. Locally referred to as Tam Ting, these two caves are carved out of towering limestone cliffs and contain thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues.

You’ll then continue by boat to Luang Prabang to check into your hotel.

The remainder of the day will be spent at your leisure.

Day 8: Luang Prabang - Home

After breakfast, a private car will transfer you to the airport for your departing flight.
