Nature and Culture in Myanmar

There is much beauty to behold as you venture through Myanmar from the shimmering Shwedagon Pagoda to the plains of Bagan peppered with temples built several hundred years ago.

During this 8 day itinerary, you will uncover a fascinating culture and stand witness to some of the most astounding sights ever.

Day 1: Arrival into Yangon

On arrival in Yangon International Airport, meet your guide and driver for a private transfer to your hotel.

At the end of the day many Yangonites leave their office and on the way back home they stop for some shopping, catch up with friends at a teashop, visit a pagoda or go to a beer station. This is exactly what you are going to do as well this evening. Highlight of the tour will be the evening visit to the illuminated Shwedagon pagoda – a magical and mystical moment at a time it’s not very busy on the main platform. After the pagoda visit snack on local as well as a local draft beer or a fresh lime juice.

Stay: Savoy Myanmar

Day 2: From Yangon to Bagan

You will be transferred to the airport in the early morning to catch your flight to Bagan.

Upon arrival, you will go on a full day tour of Bagan by car with an experienced guide who will show you the best known temples in the area. Places like the Ananda, Dhammayangyi, Sulamani, and Thatbyinnyu will certainly impress you. Lunch will be taken at a local restaurant and around 4pm we continue the tour by horse cart to Pyathagyi pagoda for sunset with some refreshing drinks served!

Stay: Aureum Palace Hotel

Day 3: Picnic in Minnanthu

After breakfast at the hotel, your driver will pick you up to bring you to Minnanthu the favourite temple area amongst frequent Bagan visitors and you know why for its tranquillity. It’s a beautiful area and the temples here are often completely deserted.

In this wonderful setting, you will have a great picnic lunch – before or after visit a couple of temples.

The rest of the day the car and guide are available for additional visits of the temples if wanted.

In the late afternoon, you will be taken on a boat ride on the mighty Ayeyarwady River for a spectacular sundowner on a sandbank in the middle of the river.

Stay: Aureum Palace Hotel

Day 4: Markets, monasteries & a hidden cave temple

In the morning you will hop aboard a montgolfiere balloon and admire Bagan from the air, a truly spectacular and memorable experience.

Then, you will be taken to the country side to explore a different side of Bagan. The first stop is Kyauk Gu Ohnmin cave temple, which remains off the beaten track, followed by Pakkoku where you will visit a local slipper factory, the markets and see where the famous Pakkoku blankets are made. A private boat is ready for you at the jetty in Pakkoku for a leisurely 2 hour trip downriver while lunch is being served on board.

In the afternoon your guide and driver will introduce you to local village life followed by a visit to a lacquer ware workshop in Myinkaba village.

Stay: Aureum Palace Hotel

Day 5: From Bagan to Inle Lake

After check-out, you will be transferred to airport for your flight to Thandwe. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel at Inle Lake.

In the south of the lake the ruins of Indein are certainly worth a visit. Partly covered by vegetation the area looks like a “pagoda forest”. You will walk about 1 hour to enjoy the fantastic views over the lake. A home-made cooked lunch is served in a local house. Then, continue towards the Nam Pan village for a very interesting canoe.

Stay: Villa Inle Resort & Spa

Day 6: Private motorboat excursion on Inle Lake

Inle Lake in southern Shan State is a vast natural lake surrounded by traditional Shan villages. The Intha people have been living on the lake for many centuries, in villages built entirely on stilts.

Today, you will discover the natural beauty of the lake aboard your private motorboat. Visit the floating gardens, see the famous fishermen and have tea at a local family’s house.

You will certainly also visit a local cheroot factory (where Burmese cigars are made), floating tomato gardens, Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, Intha Heritage house and, should you wish it, a weaving factory.

Stay: Villa Inle Resort & Spa

Day 7: Kayaking on Inle Lake

In the morning, you will be picked up by your driver and dropped off at the starting point of an interesting kayak trip through rural villages. The kayak excursion takes 2 to 3 hours and you will come across a landscape of village, beautiful nature, views of the Shan mountains and numerous floating gardens. You will also meet villagers in their house and learn more about their lifestyle and discover locally produced food production.

By lunchtime, you will arrive at an Intha House where you will have a home cooked meal. After lunch, you leave the kayaks behind and continue from here by motorboat back to the hotel.
