From Cultural Sri Lanka to Paradise in the Maldives

This ultimate itinerary is one that blends the history, culture, and stunning landscapes of Sri Lanka, with the laidback luxury of the Maldives – one of the most incredible beach destinations in the world.

Spend a week traveling through Sri Lanka and visiting all the highlights. Get your fill of the city with a shopping and sightseeing day in the capital city of Sri Lanka. Next, head to our favourite region, the Hill Country. Here you can lazily meander along the tea trails by foot or mountain bike and sample some of Ceylon’s world-famous tea. Finaly, settle down in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Galle Fort with its old-school, colonial charm.

Your reward for all this activity comes in the form of the ultimate beach getaway on the romantic island of Baros in the Maldives. Just an hour’s flight away from Colombo, you couldn’t possibly pass up this opportunity to laze your days away and swim in some of the most pristine, crystal-clear waters we’ve ever seen.

Day 1: Arrive into Colombo – Kotugoda

You will be met by your private driver, who will remain with you for the duration of your trip in Sri Lanka, and taken to your sanctuary for the night. The Wallawwa is the perfect place to recuperate from the flight and we highly recommend a spa treatment or two on arrival.

Stay: The Wallawwa

Day 2: Kotugoda – Hatton

After breakfast you will be taken on your first class train ride to Hatton in Sri Lanka’s Hill Country, whilst your driver takes your baggage onwards to the Tea Trails, where you will spend the next few nights.

Stay: Tea Trails

Day 3 - 4: Hatton

Enjoy your days at these beautiful plantation bungalows within the hills of the Bogawantalawa Valley. We recommend walking between these historic houses and exploring the unique life of working on a tea estate, with a visit to a local Ceylon tea factory one morning.

Stay: Tea Trails

Day 5: Hatton – Galle Fort

Your driver will drive you 5 hours south to Galle Fort – stopping en route for Adam’s Peak if you wish to get the view of Sri Lanka stretching beneath you. You will receive a warm welcome from the staff of Sun House, which oozes that homely comfort.

Stay: The Sun House

Day 6 - 7: Galle Fort

Days free to explore the Southern coast of Sri Lanka – pottering around the shops of Galle Fort, with a spa treatment at Amangalla, cycling inland at Hiyare rainforest, a trip to the whale watching area of Mirissa and of course visiting the local beaches, including the favourite ex-pat ‘hang-out’ of Wijaya.

Stay: The Sun House

Day 8: Depart Sri Lanka en route to the Maldivves

Drive up the Western coast to Colombo and perhaps spend some time in the city buying up the ornaments that adorn Paradise Road before a quick lunch and your flight to the Maldives. On arrival in Male, you will be met by a representative who will assist you in catching your seaplane to Six Senses Laamu

Stay: Six Senses Laamu

Day 9 - 11: Relaxing in the Maldives

This small island has an intimate feel to it as it was one of the first islands to open to tourism so the foliage is established and abundant, with colourful blooms of bougainvillea and huge palms to sit underneath to shade yourself from the sun. The sea acts as your expansive pool in which to cool down and explore the aquatic world beneath. Snorkellers are armed with kit, whilst the marine and diving school also act as another resource for those wanting to get a deeper understanding.

Stay: Six Senses Laamu

Day 12: Departure

After breakfast you’ll be waved off with a full farewell committee as you speed back to Male airport, in time to catch your flight back home.
