This 8 day Mexico holiday offers ancient ruins, horse riding, zip-lining, snorkelling with whale sharks (May – September) and relaxation in comfort on the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean Coast. Visit protected reserves, private catamaran excursion, learn about the customs and traditions of the Mayan civilisation and explore underground rivers.

Day 1: Arrival

Arrive into Cancun directly or via Mexico City and transfer down the Riveiera Mayan coast to your hotel. Spend the next seven nights at the 5 star Fairmont Mayakoba Hotel.

Day 2: Riviera Maya – Punta Venado Eco-Adventure

Travel south of your hotel to the Punta Venado Eco-Park for your excursion today. The park is set amongst some 834 hectares of wild jungle and once there take the opportunity to explore by quad bike, on horseback and also snorkel the crystal clear waters of this beautiful coastline.

Day 3: Private Catamaran with Snorkelling Tour

Set sail on your private catamaran sailing trip a wonderful days sailing across the Caribbean and explore its deep crystal clear waters on a snorkelling excursion. Just lay back and soak up the beauty of the ocean and its amazing colours.

Day 4: Tulum Ruins & Tankah Community Visit

Start your day with a privately guided visit to the Mayan archaeological site of Tulum, uniquely perched on a cliff overlooking the Mexican Caribbean. Continue on to Tankah, a Mayan community set amidst tropical jungle and cool underground sink holes (cenotes). Fly across zip lines, paddle your canoe in one of the largest open cenotes in the area and take some time to snorkel in a smaller one. Afterwards, interact with the community and learn about their way of life including a visit to a traditional home for a tasty home cooked meal including homemade tortillas. The inhabitants of Tankah continue to live mostly traditional lifestyle based on an agriculture and only recently ecotourism, which is our visit support.

Day 5: At leisure

Free day to relax at your hotel, beside the pool or on the beach.

Day 6: Rio Secreto Underground River and Caverns

This morning you will be transferred to Rio Secreto to explore the extensive underground rivers and caverns that crisscross the Yucatan Peninsula. These are by far the longest partially flooded caves in the area. Start your adventure deep inside the jungle where the main entrances to the caverns is located. Don the necessary safety gear before you head into the caverns to start your 600 metre private route teeming with stalactites and stalagmites and other geological formations that will come to life under the expert tutelage of your guides. Note: shared excursion in groups of no more than 10 participants.

Day 7: Swim with Whale Sharks

From May – September the world’s largest fish, the Whale Shark, frequents this coastline on its annual migration. Today you will be taken on an incredible and memorable experience, swimming with these harmless fish that can grow up to 15 metres in length. For the more confident amongst the family, do take the opportunity to snorkel beside these graceful fish. Afterwards stop off at tropical Isla Mujeres for lunch and some free time before you head back to the mainland.

By taking this excursion you will be contributing to the Whale Shark Project whose main focus is to study the various breeding and migratory patterns of individual specimens.

Day 8: Departure

Private Transfer from Fairmont Mayakoba to Cancun Airport for your onward flight.

You may wish to couple this exciting family holiday with a stay in vibrant Mexico City or perhaps Merida on the eastern side of the Yucatan Peninsula. Here you could stay in one of the beautiful, luxury haciendas and visit the numerous spectacular archaeological sites for a more in-depth insight into the Mayan civilisation.
