Sailing through Halong Bay, seeing the countryside by train, taking a dip in the ocean and experiencing the country’s culture and traditions.
Day 1 : Arrival in Vietnam
Upon arrival, make your way through immigration, customs and collect your luggage. At the arrival hall a representative will be waiting to transfer you the rail way station.
With its elegant carriages, the Victoria Express Train recalls a bygone age. Passing through the exotic landscapes of North Vietnam, it offers every visitor a wonderful travelling experience. An 8.5-hour trip from Hanoi to Lao Cai, the superior cabins have four berths and are great for families. Bottom line: kid’s love trains! And they will love zipping through the countryside, pointing out villages, livestock and historic sites as they go.

Day 2 : Visiting Sapa
Today you will arrive in Sapa and your family holiday begins for real! Upon arrival at the train station, you will be taken by private car to your hotel.
Set amongst Sapa’s pristine environment and the unparalleled scenery of Mount Fansipan, the Victoria Sapa Resort & Spa is the only luxury hotel in north-western Vietnam. The spacious rooms are perfect for families, each with a private terrace offering views over Sapa village, the resort’s lush gardens or Mount Fansipan. The resort features a Victoria Kid’s Club located near the rabbit garden, and comes equipped with TVs, cartoon DVDs and toys, bound to keep the children entertained. Babysitting is also available on request.
Day 3: Nam Cang Village Tour, Sapa
This morning you will be transferred to Nam Cang Village. Located 35km from Sapa, you will see beautiful landscapes on the way such as the Muong Hoa valley, picturesque views of mountains, endless rice terraces, waterfalls and Hill tribe villages.
Upon arrival, you will start your adventure by hiking near the Nam Nhiu village to the Blue H’mong village of Nam Than. The walk is then downhill until you reach the remote Red Dao minority village of Nam Cang. Lunch will be served at Nam Cang Riverside Lodge, situated a few meters from the river. Located in one of the most remote areas of Sapa, the Red Dao women wear some of the most colorful and diverse costumes of all Vietnam’s ethnic groups. Accompanied by your guide, you will explore the village and learn how the local villagers make writing paper, jewelry and embroidery.
Day 4: Hiking in Sa Xeng, Sapa
After breakfast, you will embark on a rambling hike to a village of Black H’mong people. This village is located in a pretty valley where you will experience how the locals set up their homes surrounded by rice and corn farms. The trip continues uphill with small rocky trail which will bring you closer to the lush bamboo forest. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a beautiful grassy spot, overlooking the valley of Muong Hoa.
Your hike in the afternoon will pass through a small hamlet of H’mong people in Hau Thao communal. Here you will have chance to visit local houses and learn more about their culture and how rice and corn crops are cultivated. The last part of the trip will offer an easy walk in between villages and rice terraces. Your trip will end with a pick-up by car at the main road for the transfer back to the hotel.
After checking out of your hotel, your driver will transfer you to Lao Cai railway Station, in time for your onward train to Hanoi.

Day 5: Walking Tour of Hanoi
Upon arrival at Hanoi Station, a Lightfoot Travel representative will be waiting for you on the platform for your private transfer to the Sofitel Metropole. Dating back to 1900s, the Sofitel Metropole has seen Hanoi through the ages, offering all its distinguished travellers the warmth of Vietnamese hospitality in luxurious European quarters.
After some downtime in the hotel, you will visit the Temple of Literature, built in 1076. Afterwards, you will experience the famous Vietnamese traditional water puppet show – something that has proven to be quite hilarious for the kids! Then, start a street food walking tour to the old quarter of Hanoi along the perimeter of the market; dozens of street hawkers sell a staggering variety of produce from live seafood to exotic fruits and spices. Your guide will give you an insight into the intricacies and traditions of Vietnamese food culture including details on ingredients and historical backgrounds of popular northern dishes, and the kids can pick and choose the food they wish (or dare!) to try.
Day 6: Au Co Cruise, Halong Bay
This morning you will be transferred to the seaplane departure terminal, to continue your journey to your next destination, Halong Bay.
Ha Long Bay is a spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Area and features the world’s largest marine limestone ‘karts’ landscape. On arrival you will board your boat; a wooden junk built modeling the old Vietnamese court vessels. The Au Co features the state of the art design in safety and luxury and represents Vietnamese and Oriental culture at its best. Each ship has 32 spaciously-designed private cabins, boasting luxurious bathrooms and panoramic balconies.
After check-in, you will have a lunch buffet while the boat cruises towards South East Halong Bay, passing by Chicken Rock, Finger Islet, and Frog Islet. Arrive to Dark and Bright Lagoon and visit the area by rowing boat or kayak. Later, you will return to the main boat for swimming in the area, relaxing on deck or enjoying the Au Co’s onboard spa service.
In the evening you can participate in a cooking demonstration, followed by traditional Vietnamese dinner.

Day 7: Cruising into Bai Tu Long Bay
After your morning Tai Chi lesson on deck you will be treated to breakfast with a view as the Au Co cruises into Bai Tu Long Bay. Later this morning you will be taken to Vung Vieng by traditional bamboo boat.
Enjoy lunch in Ha Long restaurant while The Au Co cruises towards Lan Ha Bay and Cat Ba Island, which are best explored by biking or hiking through the national park. a visit to The Au Co organic farm in Viet Hai Village is a must! Late this afternoon you will have time to kayak & swim in the Viet Hai Lagoon before a BBQ buffet back on board. Parents can end the day with a drink at Lan Ha bar whilst the kids join the crew for a spot of squid fishing as the ship sits at anchor.

Day 8: From Halong Bay to Hanoi
After breakfast you will be taken to the famous Sung Sot (Surprise) Cave before returning to the boat to join a Vietnamese traditional tea ceremony. After checking out you will head ashore for your private transfer back to Hanoi.
You will have the rest of the day at leisure, and we recommend hanging out by the lovely pool at Sofitel Metropole, or taking a stroll around the nearby Hoan Kiem Lake.
Day 9: From Hanoi to Nha Trang
After checking out from your hotel, a driver will be waiting for you at the lobby to transfer you to Hanoi airport, in time to board your next flight to Nha Trang. Upon arrival at Cam Ranh International Airport, please collect your luggage and proceed to the arrivals hall where you will be met by a representative, who will transfer you to your hotel, the Mia Resort.
