Discovering Shanghai

A 5 night stay to experience Shanghai, China’s largest city by population and Hangzhou, the core city of the Yangtze River Delta.  See the sophisticated Pudong skyline and enjoy dinner on the iconic Bund. See Shanghai over two days of touring that will cover the French Concession, some of their beautiful gardens and museums.

Continue the tour by first-class, high-speed train to Hangzhou for a 2 night stay at Amanfayun where you will have access to Hangzhou’s famous West Lake, historic pagodas and temples, botanical gardens and wetlands.

Day: 1 Arrival into Shanghai

On arrival into Shanghai, you will be met outside the Customs Area and provided with your transfer to the Peninsula for your stay of 3 nights.  The rest of the day will be at your leisure.

Day: 2 Cultural immersion in Shanghai

This morning you will have the opportunity to visit the city’s Bund, flanked by the magnificent colonial-era buildings previously owned by the great trading houses and banks of the early 1900′s as well as the historical French Concession District. This morning tour is offered from a motorcycle sidecar for a fun, exciting and unique viewpoint of the city. You will also visit the beautiful Yu Gardens before enjoying a lunch of traditional Shanghainese food at Din Tai Fung Restaurant before spending an afternoon visiting the excellent Shanghai Museum and their Urban Planning Centre.

Day: 3 Day excursion from Shanghai

You will go by car to reach the traditional water village of Zhouzhuang, known as the Venice of the East.  Here you will visit one of the town’s old merchant houses before continuing to Zhouzhuang’s sister town, Suzhou where you will visit the fascinating Silk Museum before lunch.  In the afternoon, go by waterway to explore Suzhou’s remarkable classical Chinese style gardens, which are on the United Nations’ World Heritage List and visits are planned to The Humble Administrator’s Garden and The Garden of the Master of the Nets before returning by road to Shanghai.

Day: 4 From Shanghai to Hangzhou

This morning will be at your leisure before you will be met to be transferred to the train station to make your first class journey to Hangzhou. The high-speed train takes approximately 45 minutes and will be upon arrival, your local guide will meet you as you disembark the train to transfer you to the Amanfayun property for your stay of 2 nights.

Day: 5 Exploring Hangzhou

This morning, your guide will meet you at the hotel lobby to take you on a full day exploring Hangzhou. You will visit the atmospheric Lingyin Temple where Buddhist monks still live and pray. It is also home to one of the largest indoor Buddha statues in the world. Later this morning, there is an opportunity to see the Tea Museum in this city that is famous for its tea plantations and fields. Lunch will be offered during the day and after you will have the afternoon to roam around the charming West Lake where you will see it by boat and on foot in order to explore the beautiful parks and causeways surrounding the water.

Stay: Amanfayun

Day: 6 Departure

Today, your guide will meet you for your transfer to the airport and assist you with checking-in for your departure flight.
