China’s Grand Capital Beijing

A 4-night break to the city of Beijing staying downtown for three nights to see the historic and impressive sights of the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and the ancient hutongs. Spend the last night in splendor and elegance at Aman at Summer Palace located just steps from the East gate of the Summer Palace.

China is an intoxicating and magnificent giant of a country that captivates all who travel there. From the ancient history of the Great Wall to the modern buzz of downtown Sanlitun, Beijing offers a bit of everything for the discerning traveller.

Day 1: Arrive into Beijing

After arriving at the Beijing International Airport, you will be met by private transfer and escorted to The Peninsula. The rest of the day will be spent wandering at leisure through the streets in and around downtown Beijing. Enjoy a relaxing dinner at Jing, The Peninsula’s signature restaurant.

Stay: The Peninsula Beijing

Day 2: Highlights of Beijing

Spend today sightseeing around Beijing including visits to Beijing’s main imperial-era attractions. This morning you will visit the magnificent Temple of Heaven, where the Emperors came to pray for good harvests and today it’s where local residents come for morning exercises such as Tai Chi and Ballroom dancing. Next stop is the Buddhist Lama Temple to see its Tibetan architectural influences.

After a simple lunch, visit the vast Tiananmen Square, home to The Great Hall of the People and China’s Parliament. Walk through The Gate of Heavenly Peace where Mao declared China as the People’s Republic in 1949. From here you will visit The Forbidden City; the former home to many of China’s Emperors and in the evening, sit down for a delicious dinner of Peking Duck at the famous Da Dong restaurant before walking through the bustling Sanlitun.

Day 3: Trip to the Great Wall

Enjoy a full day visit to The Great Wall of China. The visit to the Great Wall is suggested at Jinshanling and although further from the City it offers a much more natural Wall experience as it is much less visited and from here you will see stunning views of the surrounding countryside. For lunch enjoy a picnic at your chosen spot before taking a hike to go further afield.

Stay: The Peninsula Beijing

Day 4: Traditional Beijing

This morning, visit by traditional pedi-cab, the Hutongs that were recently ‘protected’ due to their ever-decreasing number. Beijing’s hutongs are maze-like alleyways made up of courtyard residences built with incredible attention to detail and in accordance with the principles of Feng Shui.

After a simple lunch, your visit to this magnificent city continues by moving to the Imperial Summer Palace where you will stay for your last night at Aman at the Summer Palace and where once again you can marvel at the opulence in which the Emperors once lived. This is the perfect setting for a relaxing afternoon.

Stay: Aman at the Summer Palace

Day 5: Departure

Relax and enjoy the gourmet food at Naoki restaurant and exceptional service whilst being surrounded by the grounds of the Summer Palace. From here you can discover the serene and peaceful internal courtyards of the resort while embracing traditional Chinese architecture and learning about the property’s history. The resort was originally used by guests of the Summer Palace awaiting an audience with the Empress Dowager Cixi at the turn of the 20th century. After a leisurely morning and afternoon you will be taken by private transfer to Beijing International Airport for your return flight home.
